Palestar is a lovely example of a slim WindClan she-cat. Her body is covered in a short, even coat of soft white fur which fluffs in soft clouds inside her ears and frames her face with fine sprays of long, white whiskers. She keeps her pelt neatly-groomed and looking its best, so that she may be presentable if she ever receives a visitor to her den. Where her skin can be seen, on her delicate pointed nose, her inner ears and paw pads, it's possible to see a faint blush of pale pink free of any visible scars or markings. Her golden, almond-shaped eyes are bronzed with a hint of green. Palestar is a tall cat with long, shapely legs and an elegant, tapered tail. There isn't much weight too her, but although she is a slim she-cat, it's a soft kind of slimness, the kind that comes of eating little and moving even less. She's lost some of her strength and bulk since becoming WindClan's prophet, but despite this Palestar still strikes a stately figure whenever she emerges from her den. Her face is elegant, with fine features usually further-improved by a kindly expression. Palestar speaks simply and moves with quiet grace whenever she walks among her Clan. When one looks at WindClan's new prophet, it is difficult to remember the skilled warrior that she once was.

In the whole Clan, there could not be a cat more suited to the role of prophet than Palestar. She was chosen by the departing spirits of StarClan for the role, after all, and any WindClan cat could explain why. What better cat to imbue with unearthly wisdom than their dedicated, caring leader? Palestar is a kind-hearted cat, one of those few individuals who seem to exist with the simple mission of bettering others. Since her ascention to prophet, she has come to view each one of the cats in her Clan as her beloved children, and never fails to treat them with gentleness and care. She does her best to make decisions that will benefit her Clan, and whenever any cat comes to see her, even one from outside of WindClan, Palestar helps them as best she can. Her own children must always come first, however, so she cannot assist an outsider if it puts her Clan in jeopardy. She feels a strong sense of loyalty and duty to her followers and would readily put her lives on the line if danger ever threatened them. Palestar is a gentle cat with a calm nature, and usually appears serious, but not to the point of severity. She is difficult to irritate, and tends towards disapproval or disappointment rather than rage. Even in the worst of times, Palestar strives to improve the situation and makes an effort to find the silver lining in every cloud.
» background : Palestar's life began on a humid night during the hottest part of greenleaf. Sparrowfeather, a young warrior, was giving birth to her first litter as her mate waited outside. The medicine cat Greyfeather helped her along as she birthed one kit after the other, until four tiny bundles lay beside the new mother; three she-kits, Mousekit, Palekit, and Skykit, and their brother Gorsekit. It was, as the queen would fondly tell her kits moons down the road, the happiest and most exhausting night of her life.
Mid-greenleaf was a good time to be born, in the scheme of things. It was just about the last opportunity queens had to give birth when there was still enough time and prey to rear their kits before leaf-bare struck. Palekit and her siblings spent the rest of the season sheltering inside of the nursery, warm and well-fed. They didn't begin exploring camp until it was almost leaf-fall, but like the healthy, adventurous young kits they were, it didn't take them long after to start making mischief in camp. Or that was to say that Palekit and Skykit tagged along while their brother and sister led them on various adventures.
After six moons of rapid growth by all four kits, Palekit and her siblings were ready to become apprentices. And a good thing it was too, for leaf-bare was sinking its claws in by that point and it was about time that the four of them were hunting to make up for all the prey that they consumed. Sparrowfeather, however, did not leave the nursery when her kits moved into the apprentices den. Despite the lateness of the season, she was expecting another litter of kits. The medicine cat worried for their health, being as late as they were, but there was nothing to do except wait and hope that the weather wouldn't take a bad turn.
Palepaw's younger siblings were born a moon after she became an apprentice. The litter of three seemed healthy enough, but unfortunately a cold snap shortly after the newborns arrived resulted in the death of the smallest kit, Icekit. Rock-kit and Finchkit pulled through however, and all four of their older siblings did their very best during their training so that there would be enough fresh-kill for their mother and the two new kits.
Palepaw worried endlessly about the kits because she was a poor hunter, and constantly felt like she should be bringing home more prey. The area where she excelled was combat training, not chasing after fleeing hares, and although her mentor praised her fighting skills Palepaw took every opportunity to improve her hunting. By the end of her apprenticeship she was an acceptable hunter and both of her younger siblings still lived, and so she ascended to warriorhood that green-leaf with high spirits and a new name--Paleheart.
After her vigil, Paleheart was welcomed to the warrior's den by a cat whom she knew from the first moons of her apprenticeship. Crowpelt was four moons older than Paleheart, and the two hadn't interacted much during the two short moons that they shared a den. As Paleheart's brother and sisters began to find their own roles in the Clan, however, she began spending more time with other warriors, including Crowpelt. The stubborn and quick-witted tom stole her heart away before leaf-fall was over, and by the middle of leaf-bare she was expecting his kits.
Although her timing could have been better, Paleheart was still overjoyed to be expecting. But her joy was tempered when greencough swept the camp, taking her sister Skywhisker and younger brother Stonetooth, who had just become a warrior, among two others. Crowpelt and Paleheart greeted that newleaf with more sobriety than expecting parents should have. That newleaf was a mild one, and after Paleheart gave birth around the time that she snow began to melt her two kits, a tom and a she-kit, grew quickly. Their presence helped the young queen over her sadness at the deaths of her sister and brother.
Ashkit and Nightkit were already well-known in camp by the time newleaf was at its height. Paleheart was astounded by how quickly they matured. The six months that passed from their birth until their apprenticeship at the end of greenleaf seemed unbelievably short, but at the same time, she was glad to be back in the warriors den. Paleheart was given an apprentice from a litter that had been born shortly after her own less than a moon after her return to the warriors' den. She knew the young apprentice well since she had helped to raise him, and the two got along well.
Goldenpaw was a bright apprentice and a quick learner, and had made excellent progress in his training by the time he was three moons into his apprenticeship. This was around the time that the current deputy, Silverflight, died of a badly-infected wound, and Harestar named Paleheart as deputy in his place. The new deputy juggled her new duties as deputy with Goldenpaw's training for the next two moons, until an accident while hunting in bad conditions led to Harestar's death. Palestar was vaulted to leader, and after a period of deep thought she named Crowpelt as her deputy. The clever tom had helped her through many things since she became a warrior, and since he was mentoring Goldenpaw's sibling, Duskpaw, there was nothing between him and the position.
The following two seasons were some of the happiest of Palestar's life. Together with Crowpelt, she worked hard to run her Clan so that everyone was safe and well-fed. Their apprentices, along with her own kits, all were made into warriors shortly after Palestar became leader. Despite losing her first life to a severe bellyache after eating a bad piece of fresh-kill, by greenleaf's end, Palestar had grown used to her role as leader and WindClan was living well. Their borders were secure both from rival Clans and the non-Clan pests that lived outside of their territory. But as leaf-fall drew in, Greyfeather warned Palestar that StarClan was not happy. In the usual way of StarClan, the medicine cat could not say exactly why, but at the same time that greenleaf faded into leaf-fall something strange happened.
At the next half-moon, StarClan did not speak with any of the Clan's medicine cats.
Thereafter, no cat saw or heard any sign from the ancestors. At the next Gathering cats met in confusion and distress. RiverClan's leader did not appear; in her place was a new leader, Thornstar, who was barely two summers old. That Gathering ended uneasily, and the next full moon was covered with a thick blanket of cloud. As leaf-fall wore into leaf-bare and StarClan continued to ignore the Clans, even when Palestar visited the Moonstone herself, tension rose in the forest until, five moons after that first uneasy Gathering, a dispute between ThunderClan and RiverClan escalated into a bloodbath that consumed Fourtrees entirely.
Palestar lost her second life during the battle, her throat clawed open by a ShadowClan warrior who was already dead when she woke up moments later. Her mother died at the claws of a pair of cats from ThunderClan, but this was not even the most shattering thing to take place during the battle. Palestar's mate and loyal deputy Crowpelt was killed by a cat whom she never even saw. After ordering an expeditious retreat upon regaining waking life, Palestar returned with Greyfeather and a fresh patrol of warriors to collect the fallen and tend to any wounded.
She found Crowpelt lying near the High Rock, his windpipe crushed. That night was long and full of grieving. Although she rallied enough to name a new deputy before the following moonhigh, it was clear that the tragedy had shaken her. Palestar led in a daze as leaf-bare gave way to newleaf. The old medicine cat who had helped her into the world died at an old age after he was bitten by a snake, and his apprentice took over treating all of the Clan's ailments. When a late bout of greencough swept the camp, Palestar, after moons of picking at her prey, fell quickly to the disease, losing her third life.
After her return, she was nursed back to health by the medicine cat and her new deputy. She couldn't be weak any longer, because her Clan needed her. They were suffering, for they had lost not only their ancestors and Clanmates, but their leader as well. That was when the young medicine cat came to her with a suggestion. For WindClan to grow strong once more, they needed to restore to it what had been lost. WindClan needed their leader's love, but they also needed the guidance of higher powers. They needed a light to follow.
So began an era of enlightenment for the cats of WindClan. Their medicine cat had to announce that Palestar had lost her third life... but she had been reborn blessed with new insight. Insight given to her as a last gift from the departed StarClan in WindClan's time of need, that would see them through the coming trials.
Since that day few cats saw Palestar in person--she had taken to waiting inside her den as her deputy and medicine cat spoke to the Clan, communicating her wisdom and carrying out her orders. Sometimes Palestar would allow those with urgent questions audience to speak with her in person, and she still performed the Clan's rituals, but otherwise she was rarely seen. But at least WindClan was not suffering in StarClan's absence. That was all that mattered.
