!!! RIVERCLAN DEPUTY AUDITIONS !!!

With potential war on the rise for RiverClan a strong, loyal deputy is most definitely needed. You can apply here with cats for such a position- or even have already made cats apply. However, the following qualifications must be met. The other "What If Scenarios" are optional possibilities that you can toy around with.

Currently there is no cut-off for this audition. When I feel we have enough entries, I will close the thread and make a decision.

RIVERCLAN DEPUTY MUST MUST:

- BE ABOVE 66 MOONS AND BELOW 80 MOONS. When Thornstar was chosen for deputy- and then leader- there was a lot of squabbling and distrust in the Clan. To remedy that Thornstar chose a senior warrior to be his deputy- the Clan's natural choice for deputy when Snakefoot initially passed.

- BE PURE RIVERCLAN. If only for RiverClan's sake. They already have a half-clan leader- it's a good contrast and it wouldn't be something that would ire Foxstar even more.

- BE PART OF THE PATROL THAT IGNORED FOXSTAR'S DROWNING KITS.  Perhaps they were young and naive at the time- were only following the orders of Fernstar. Or perhaps they were purposely malicious! The choice is yours- either way, though- this is important because it will help the plot later on.

- TRAINED AN APPRENTICE. That's code, man. That's the RULES.

- HAVE A FAMILY. They're going to be an older deputy- perhaps they have warrior aged kits or apprentice aged kits- maybe even some grandkits in the nursery! Or they've just started a family- or have a mate who's expecting! The what ifs don't matter- hell they could even have kits later on- but the clan needs more family units.

- BE WILLING TO DO PLOT POINTS AT A LATER DATE. Details are currently not available to the public eye.

While not an absolute must, it is highly recommended that you look in the RiverClan litters and deceased list and find some family for your deputy! It keeps the clan realistic- keeping pure cats related and what not. Fernstar's brother, perhaps? Fishpelt's mother? Heronclaw's uncle or sister! Snakefoot's father!

THE WHAT-IF SCENARIOS:

- HAS A VENDETTA AGAINST THUNDERCLAN. Vendettas are always fun!

- ONE OF FERNSTAR'S OLD APPRENTICES. Fernstar was pretty old- maybe they were her apprentice once upon a time.

- PREVIOUSLY TRAINED AS A MEDICINE CAT. We have a lot of medicine cats who started out as warrior apprentices- maybe the opposite happened here! Maybe they trained under Firfur for a while and realized they hated it and left to instead be a warrior!

- HAVE AN OLD INJURY. Maybe they limp sometimes. Maybe they have a KILLER SCAR across their face or something. Scars are rad as hell, man.

Hawkwhisker has the look of the average cat; he has a relatively nondescript appearance, and doesn’t really stand out in a crowd. His pelt has a pale brown base color, lightening around his muzzle, and dark brown tabby striping. Slender stripes coat his body from shoulder to tail, and the signature tabby ‘M’ marks his forehead just above his eyes. His fur is oily and short-haired, sleek as all RiverClan cats’ pelts are, and it doesn’t seem to hold water after a swim. Hawkwhisker grooms his pelt regularly, so it’s shiny and well-kept.

His build is unremarkable—he is a tom of average size, larger than she-cats but smaller than some of his male counterparts. His tail and limbs are of a proportional length, and he isn’t particularly broad about his shoulders. However, despite his regular size, his body is packed with muscle, built from a lifetime of eating the fish from the river and warriorhood.

His face is very expressive, and perhaps the part about Hawkwhisker that stands out the most is his eyes. They are big and round, rich amber in color. His ears are pointed and proportional to his body; not too small, and not too big. His muzzle is a bit short and ends with a little red nose and long white whiskers. Despite all of his averageness, his little nose is one of his greatest assets; he received his warrior name for his tracking abilities.

As a longtime member of RiverClan, Hawkwhisker is well known for his genial attitude, wise counsel, and respectful manner. He is a likable cat, always willing to lend a paw to help or to give advice where it is necessary. He has a friendly, open disposition that seems to soothe tensions of cats around him—he has a calming presence, able to diffuse arguments with a few well-placed words. Even-tempered and slow to anger, perhaps Hawkwhisker’s greatest flaw is his unwillingness to resort to violence—though given the tensions between RiverClan and ThunderClan, perhaps it is also his greatest asset. While some may consider it “cowardice”, Hawkwhisker prefers to call it “caution”.

Despite his promotion to a position of power, Hawkwhisker remains respectful and courteous to all other members of the Clan, even if they don’t agree with his views or suggestions. He provides a strong, level-headed side to things that, yes, may err on the side of caution, but is what he believes to be the best for the Clan he loves. He is a patient mentor, talented hunter, and prefers to be on the defensive during battles. One thing that Hawkwhisker most certainly is not is aggressive, for better or for worse. This hesitance and reluctance to do things such as fight has caused him to be a relatively average cat in battle, especially on the offensive, although he picks up some slack when he is on the defensive.

Hawkwhisker is a cat who, though respectful, will say what he believes needs to be said. He is popular and well-liked among his Clanmates for having a level head and friendly manner.

On a crisp leaf-bare morning, when a fine layer of snow covered the ground, a she-cat by the name of Heathernose gave birth to a single small but healthy kit named Hawk-kit. Her mate was an older tom called Barkheart; they had had one litter before this, with two she-kits now called Leaftail and Palepelt, but would have no more.

Due to the season, Hawk-kit's mother would not permit him to leave the den until the weather started to warm up; it was about three moons before he got to spend any decent length of time outside, but when he did he was confident and curious. He didn't cause much mischief, instead choosing to watch the life of the Clan and boldly ask questions. He became known around RiverClan as a kit who was incredibly willing to speak to anyone, but was very respectful and tactful when he did so. He learned a lot from the warriors and apprentices he spoke to before he was ever apprenticed.

When the six moons mark came, the young tom was, to his immense shock, taken on as an apprentice by Fernstar herself. Perhaps she saw something in him. Under her tutelage, he flourished; he learned quickly and determinedly, and he wanted to learn it all. A speed bump came when he started learning to fight. His reluctance to engage in controversy caused him to initially be reluctant to learn to fight offensively. Fernstar taught him that controversy isn't always a bad thing, and that he shouldn't let himself be stomped all over just because he was afraid of causing strife. After that, he did well.

Fernstar promoted him to Hawkwhisker when he was about a year old; he had a large amount of respect for the she-cat, and the two had established a friendly camaraderie between each other. Initially this resulted in some bitterness from those who were already living in the warriors den. Eventually, however, they learned that Hawkwhisker was simply like that with every cat he met—friendly and respectful and kind. His popularity among the ranks grew.

His older sister Leaftail drowned in a flood trying to save an apprentice (who made it). Having been fond of the older she-cat, with whom he'd grown close after he moved into the warriors den, he was deeply saddened by the accident. It was soon after this event that, while on patrol with a few more experienced warriors, they happened upon a pair of cats trying to save their drowning kits—the ThunderClan deputy and his mate. The other warriors in the patrol were not inclined to help them. If not for Hawkwhisker's fear of drowning in the same way as his sister, he would have gladly dove in; as it was, he fled with wide eyes. He remained regretful for a long time after, but after confiding in Fernstar, he gradually forgave himself.

Hawkwhisker was given an apprentice called Reedpaw, a pretty little she-cat who was confident and headstrong. Though he had trouble with her stubbornness, she eventually grew to be a great warrior, and he was very fond of her. After she was living in the warriors den for a few moons, having earned her warrior name of Reedflight, the two of them formed a tight bond as equals; they became mates soon after. They had one litter with two she-kits, whom they named Spottedkit and Ashkit. Hawkwhisker was at one of his happiest points during those few moons with his family.

His kits became apprentices, and his mate rejoined him in the warriors den. He was given another apprentice, a tom called Firepaw. Firepaw was a timid thing, the opposite in every way from his first apprentice, and he had to exercise patience in a totally different way with him. In both cases, he learned as much from his apprentices as they learned from him

Tragedy struck before Firepaw and his kits moved out of the apprentices den. Reedflight died suddenly after a snake bite. Stricken with sadness, Hawkwhisker threw himself into his duties as a mentor and a warrior. His apprentice moved to the warriors den, along with his kits. His sister passed away due to sickness while she was pregnant, along with his parents, a sore loss for his family. His popularity among the Clan continued to climb and he earned a reputation of being kind and friendly toward his Clanmates.

Moons passed and Hawkwhisker found little desire to settle down with another mate, as his kits branched out and began to have families of their own. Fernstar lost her final life, and he grieved with the rest of the Clan over the lost of his friend and former mentor. By that point, Hawkwhisker had become a well-liked cat, and a senior warrior. To his immense shock and pride, Thornstar appointed Hawkwhisker as the new deputy of RiverClan.

Since his appointment, Hawkwhisker has focused solely on his duties as deputy. He has offered advice to Thornstar when called on and desires to keep the peace between ThunderClan and RiverClan. He specializes in smoothing over tensions among the Clan. He does the best he can with what skills he has. Hawkwhisker provided something the Clan sorely needed in this time of strife: a pureborn RiverClan, experienced deputy who is friendly, level-headed, and well-liked.
