Young, slender, and fresh as a daisy, Beatrice is a pretty and prim she-cat. She is the very image of what most Clan cats think of when they imagine a typical twoleg kittypet — meticulously groomed, soft, and utterly nonthreatening. Warm, velvety fur covers her small body in a carefully-maintained tapestry of creams, russets, and browns all slashed through with stripes of deep black. Beatrice's plush-furred form is easily recognisable around her neighbourhood, her petite, long-bodied silhouette and fluffy bottlebrush tail always looking clean and pettably soft. This is just fine with her, since Beatrice loves being stroked and loved by any housefolk she meets. Still, if there was ever any doubt at all about her kittypet origins, it is quickly erased upon noticing the slim black collar pinching the plush fur of her neck. Beatrice has the whole kittypet package, complete with informative tag and a little golden bell to warn others of her coming. Her cute, small-featured face is usually fixed in a curious, eager expression, ears alert and feathery whiskers wiggling. To complete the pretty picture, her round eyes, bright copper orbs with tarnished green at their centers, are almost always open in the most guileless and charming stare anyone has ever seen.

Beatrice is inexperienced and naive, with little practical knowledge of life as it exists outside of her garden. She knows that some cats experience hardship in their lives, but finds herself largely unable to fathom the true extent of such an existence. This innocence translates itself into curiosity about everything which she isn't familiar with, resulting in a questing, open outlook which is almost constantly in place. New experiences are tackled with eagerness, and gossip is both shared and absorbed readily. Admittedly, Beatrice is somewhat dense when it comes to empathising with foreign points of view. She fails utterly to see why any cat would actively reject the kittypet lifestyle, and consequently doesn't make many friends among the loners and Clan cats that she comes across. Although Beatrice isn't easily offended, and presents a gentle and friendly demeanour to almost everyone she meets, she has been known to make unintentionally demeaning or rude comments to the non-kittypets she speaks with. Conversely, in all other aspects of social interaction she holds herself to exceedingly high standards, always taking pains to be considerate and present an elegant, attractive face to those she meets. It means she's generally well-loved among other kittypets and their housefolk, but other cats tend to find her annoying.
» background : Beatrice was born in the hottest part of summer, when the air stifled the forest creatures with its dampness and sun beat away the clouds whenever they wanted to gather. Fortunately for her, although Beatrice's father was a stray cat, her mother had an air-conditioned house to call her own, so Beatrice and her three siblings were born in safety and comfort. Up until then their mother had been the sole feline occupant of the house, and in truth her housefolk had not intended to allow their young kittypet to get pregnant and make little copies of herself. Maple was strictly an indoor cat, but one successful escape attempt and several weeks of gestation later, there it was. Four little fuzzy bundles of joy, three of them female. Needless to say, as soon as Maple's kittens were weaned completely her housefolk took her for a visit to the cutter to make sure that the mishap would never happen again, but that's neither here nor there. What's relevant to Beatrice's story is that for the first three months of her life, she grew up with only her housefolk and her immediate family for company, knowing nothing of the world outside her house except what little Maple would sometimes relate from her short adventure.
When Maple's kittens reached their twelfth week of life, something happened which the kittypet had been expecting ever since she had given birth. Just as Maple had been when she was young, her kittens were advertised to all of their housefolk's friends, and singly or in pairs they were scooped up to go to other houses in the neighbourhood. First to go was the only tom--he ended up moving three blocks away to live with an older female housefolk and her daughter. Beatrice was adopted with one of her sisters, Elizabeth. Both she-cats were spirited away to a small house on the edge of the forest, given names, and taken to the cutter within a couple months of moving in. The remaining kitten was still living with Maple when they left, and she lives there still, the two she-cats keeping each other and their housefolk company. For Beatrice and Elizabeth, the next few seasons were spent getting to know their new housefolk, and eventually exploring the outdoors, which they had never before been given leave to do. Elizabeth especially found the world outside of their house to be intimidating at first, but as the mated pair of housefolk and their three rambunctious children made the house quite crowded at times, the outdoors soon became a welcome escape for both kittypets. Even if they only went far enough to find a good sunning patch or nibble a few plants, soon Bea and Liza were eagerly demanding to be let out each morning. It was only a matter of time before they became acquainted with the other local kittypets and strays, but in time meeting strange cats became less frightening as well. Life's been coming up roses for Beatrice ever since.
