[/b] Nightwing's confidence not only shows in the way he carries himself, but in his very speech. Nothing is spoken with hesitation or, as some would say, thought. However, Nightwing is not a cruel cat despite being very showy. He's very outgoing and welcoming towards strangers. It does not take much to earn his trust and to become counted among his friends. Some call this foolishness, but Nightwing simply calls it being friendly. He is very rarely serious. Despite living the harsh life of a warrior, Nightwing remains upbeat. Even in the heat of battle he will make jokes about his failings or his opponent's. Very little affects Nightwing's permanent good mood. Those who have the most power over him in this aspect are, incidentally, his friends. Nightwing often puts so much trust in them that, when they do let him down, he is positively crushed. At times when this happens he may remain silent for days before suddenly cheering up, forgiving them, and becoming his old self again. The cats he seems to care for the most are Batflight and the other young toms he's mentored and given aid to. Nightwing holds Batflight in high-esteem and counts his other apprentices as Nightwing's own kin. To him they make up a family. A small, broken family. But a family. Nightwing is very protective of them and it seems that they are the only ones who know how to make him truly angry or upset.

» background: Nightwing was born at sunhigh on the warmest day of the season. His parents were extremely proud of their handsome little son. They doted on him. When he became old enough to roam, Nightkit got into the habit of sneaking out of the camp when no one was watching him. He would wander as far as he could until his mother caught up with him. Often Nightkit would try to climb tries on these excursions, usually only making it half way up the tree before he had to admit defeat.

One day when he was five moons old, Nightkit managed to slip away from the camp once more. One of the queens happened to give birth that morning, taking up most of the queens' attentions. It wasn't until sunhigh when his father returned from a patrol did his mother realize Nightkit was gone. They went tearing out of the camp to look for him. Their son had managed to wander all the way out towards the Thunderpath and climb one of the trees. Of course, Nightkit did not think this plan of action through. Once he was up on the tree's highest bows it was almost impossible for him to get down. His mother and father found him calling for help from the highest branches of the tree. They both scrambled to get to him before he fell. In their haste, they both jumped on to the same branch. The branch broke under their combined weight and sent them tumbling on to the Thunderpath. Both of them landed on their feet, stunned but unhurt. A car had been coming down the road and the driver, surprised by the sudden appearance of the two cats, was unable to stop and hit them both.

Nightkit remained trapped in the tree until a small patrol of warriors was finally sent out to locate him and his parents. It was Batflight who plucked Nightkit from the tree while the other warriors looked over the carnage on the Thunderpath. Batflight carried him back to the camp and delivered him safely to the nursery. Nightkit became sullen and moody after the incident, blaming himself and hating the other queens who gushed over him in a sad attempt to replace his mother. He was unexcited when the day of his apprenticeship ceremony came. Nightkit sat through it without a word, until his mentor was mentioned. Batflight had been assigned to him as a mentor. After the ceremony, Batflight became like a second father to Nightpaw. He was protective and harsh in training. But he was always there for the young apprentice when he truly needed him. Batflight brought out his old personality and trained him to be an efficient warrior. Nightpaw worked harder than he ever would have if he'd been given another mentor. Nobody else's praise mattered to him; not even the leader's. All Nightpaw cared about was earning Batflight's seal of approval because that was all that mattered.

Nightpaw was given the name of Nightwing to show his agility and grace. It was, quite possibly, the best day of his life. Batflight was given a new apprentice shortly after, as the Clan had been impressed with the miracle he'd worked with Nightpaw. This apprentice reminded Nightwing of himself in the days after his parents' deaths. He took it upon himself to be like an older brother to him. When Batflight was too busy to pay attention to Redpaw, Nightwing would take it upon himself to entertain him. Nightwing was proud of Redpaw when he earned the warrior name of Redfang and still remains close with him. (As close as anyone can be to Redfang, anyhow.) When the apprentice {name to be determined} adopted Batflight as a second mentor, Nightwing readily assumed the position of older brother once more. And when Batflight finally had a kit of his own, a moody little thing called Shadekit, Nightwing wouldn't have been happier. To him these rag-tag group of toms make up his small, dysfunctional, broken family. And he would not have it any other way.[/ul]

He looks good, Ki, except the name has caused a bit of debate. I guess I'm okay with the Blue- suffix, despite the fact that he's a black cat, but not really if it's also paired with -bird because it ultimately creates a real compound word that makes him sound like... well, a bluebird. Which isn't really something I can see Tigerstar doing. Unless it's absolutely crucial that he be called that, could he possibly have a different prefix or suffix?

And Spore informs me that the blue eyes are deeply unlikely on a black cat, so that'll have to be changed too (I'm pretty sure it's just the colouration of the photo rather than the actual cat which makes them look blue).
