Fur wise, Kestrelflower has a rather interesting selection of colors on her pelt. Her fur itself is thick and a bit longer then the average short-haired cat's. Not long enough to make her long haired but, just slightly so. It helps keep her warm during the winter. Marking wise, she's what you would call a 'calico torbie'. Her fur is mostly white, stretching to her front legs and under her belly. Her neck and muzzle are this same white color, and, the white even stretches into a patch on her forehead. The rest of her, however, is a mix of brown and orange. Mostly brown with darker tabby stripes, Kestrelflower sports a unique pelt color. There are patches of orange tabby fur across the darker brown parts of her fur, and, even the patch of fur surrounding her right eye is that of an orange tabby. Her tail, which is longer then average, is a mottled collection of all three colors of her fur, orange, white, and brown.
And, finally, Kestrelflower sports a cute, white, tail tip. Something that ties her all together, she supposes. She's a slew of assorted colors and other traits, all which, have shown up somewhere in her kits.
» personality : protective . 'smother' . aggressive . stubborn . fierce
A bright she-cat, it often surprises other cats when they learn that Kestrelflower has been the mother of several litters. She doesn't strike others as the 'mothering' type, often because of her crude way of speaking and opinionated personality. As a younger cat she was always the type to wander headfirst into trouble, and, often, would go off searching for it. Even after having kits much of her personality has remained the same. Just, new points have been integrated into it. Despite what one may think, Kestrelflower is somewhat mothering. She takes good care of her kits, reminding them when to clean their fur and feed themselves. It doesn't matter if they're warriors or kits still nursing at her side, she treats them all the same. One could even say she's a bit more of a 'smother' then she is a mother. She's protective of her kits, even after they leave her side, and is known to chew out anyone who berates them or messes with them. A bit of a 'I raised this cat so they can do no wrong' mentality.
Though, that's not to say she's gentle with them, she loves them, and, she does smother them at times but, she's just as rough, or perhaps rougher with them then she is with other cats. They're hers so, she knows they can take it.
Outside her kits though, Kestrelflower treats other cats with a strange friendliness. She enjoys chatting with others but, is known for her crude way of speaking and her blunt personality so, at times, she is avoided. She may not seem like it but, beneath her rough exterior, she's actually fairly kind. She just doesn't know how to hone in on this, and, can never bring herself to lie to someone, resulting in her blunt way of speaking.
She's also known for how stubborn she is, stuck in her ways and never to be changed. Not even her kits can tend to change her mind or opinion. She loves them and respects their own opinions but, she knows who's right.
This stubbornness goes paw in paw with her belief in StarClan, who she adamantly believes still exists and will return.
One day.
» background : Born in greenleaf, Kestrelflower was the middle kit in a decent sized litter. She was not the smallest kit, nor the largest kit, just another average sized kit among her litter. The only thing that really made her stand out, at first, was her calico pelt. She was dubbed 'Kestrelkit' for her resemblance to the bird and, that was that. She opened her eyes at a normal rate, and, as she grew, played and learned like any other normal kit. It was noticed very early on, however, that Kestrelkit had a knack for making others upset. She was blunt, even from a young age, and had no problem with telling other kits what she really thought of them. She was rough and harsh with her words, and, tended to laugh when other kits called her mean or cruel. She didn't think so. She was just truthful. She was just as rough when she played and, never was one to be too careful about sheathing her claws when tussling. Some of the Queens called her a little menace but, no matter how hard they or or her mother tried, no one could really reign Kestrelkit in.
This continued on even into her apprenticeship. Her mentor was a tough she-cat who took no excuses and, perhaps, was a wrong choice for someone like Kestrelpaw but, none the less, she pressed on. She trained hard alongside her siblings and friends, and, as time progressed, grew into a... semi gentler she-cat. She was still rough around the edges but, less and less cats called her a menace now, and, in fact, some queens even commented on what a she-cat she had grown into.
At least until she mentioned how fat they were getting during their pregnancy.
What could she say? She still had some ways to go.
She became a warrior at 13 moons, and, was given the name 'Kestrelflower', perhaps as some cruel joke to how rough she was, or, in hopes for her to become more feminine as time went on. None the less, she was a warrior now and had warriorly duties to do. She really just bossed other younger apprentices around more but, some how, as time went on, ended up having a fling or two with an older warrior. She thought nothing of it, at the time but, before long, wound up having to think something of it. It was discovered she was pregnant half-way into her 20th moon, and, before the moon was over, she had given birth to a tiny litter of kits. Her first litter of what would eventually be several litters. Two girls- little Dusk-kit and Tawnykit.
She was less then pleased with having to deal with kits but, after only a moon or so, she picked up on her maternal instincts quite easily. She even took in the orphaned kit of the leader, Hazelkit, without batting an eye. Maybe sometimes she played with her kits a little too hard but, never on purpose.
Not much, anyway. Besides, a little tussle now and then wouldn't hurt them.. None the less, Kestrelflower raised her small litter in a way that only she would of approved of, and, at six moons, watched them become apprentices.
She returned to warrior duties soon after but, often enough, found herself searching out her for kits and smoothing their fur out, telling them what to do, and other things. She missed having them around, missed being around kits. She did not have to wait long though, because when her oldest litter was around ten moons, she returned to the nursery, delivering a litter of three kits.
It was during her second trip to the nursery that Kestrelflower's world was shaken- her little Tawnypaw had been killed- hit by a monster- and Kestrelflower suddenly found herself clinging to her kits even more than before. She'd constantly check up on them- rarely let her new litter out of her sight- devoted her entire time to both of her litters.
When her second litter became apprentices she felt at a loss. She continually checked on them- but they didn't need her any longer- and it hurt. It became worse when all her kits became warriors, as well, so Kestrelflower found her own solution- she had another litter.
She raised said kits with the same fine abilities she raised her prior litter with. Of course she was overjoyed when her adoptive daughter, Hazelstorm, joined her in the nursery and spoiled her grandkits silly. It was around this time, however, that it became apparent that StarClan had stopped speaking with the clans. The battle of four trees happened- ruining most clan relations for good- and sending a dark ripple throughout Kestrelflower's own clan.
Cats began speaking of not needing StarClan anyway- their code was outdated- and Kestrelflower found her adoptive daughter leading such speeches.
When her third litter became apprentices and the rift finally grew to such lengths that cats left the clan- Kestrelflower opted to take herself and her unweaned kits them. She loves Starclan, of course, but her other kits have their fathers to look after them- her poor Hazelstorm and Duskfang have no one. And, well, someone has to look after their well being- who better than their mother?
