» personality: Foxstar has led ThunderClan for sixty-four long moons. As he is so experienced, Foxstar believes himself far wiser than most. His word is law in ThunderClan, and anyone who forgets this is just asking for trouble. He is always honest, often brutally so. He takes pride in this, and believes it is crucial for maintaining the respect of his clan. For better or for ill, the clan always knows where they stand with him. He speaks with authority and confidence, to the point where even the most rowdy of kits will stop and listen when he raises his voice. It helps that Foxstar has what one might call a silver tongue; he's extremely articulate. He notoriously tough to please, and earning his approval is an uphill battle itself. But when Foxstar does hand down a rare bit of praise it is all the more meaningful. For the most part, however, he is unbending and strict with all the cats in his clan. The young warriors and apprentices are the ones that most frequently earn his ire; Foxstar believes strongly in adhering to tradition. He expects them to as well, and becomes irate when they stray too far from the 'old ways'.
He does, however, have a softer side to him. When around his mate Fawnheart, Foxstar is calmer and far more patient. She reminds him that demanding perfection from everyone all the time is not realistic. His love for her is obvious, and when they are together it's as though they're young warriors rather than some of the oldest cats in the forest. Foxstar is also popular with kits, surprisingly enough. He makes it a point to visit the queens as often as he can to make sure they are happy and well taken care of. With kits he is patient and even kind, allowing them to crawl all over him and attack his tail as they please. This gentle side, however, is reserved only for the youngest members of ThunderClan. Apprentices and warriors will find themselves out of luck if they even so much as want a single smile.
» background: Foxkit and his brother Tigerkit were born many moons ago to a pair of young warriors, Russetwhisker and Dawnfur. They were both very happy and healthy kits, and grew into very promising apprentices. Foxpaw excelled as an apprentice; he put everything he had into his training. His hard work paid off. By the end of his apprenticeship, Foxpaw was an excellent hunter and an even better fighter. He eventually received the warrior name Foxeye. He remained on good terms with his brother Tigerfang and his parents. Foxeye was happy with his place. He received an apprentice, Nettlepaw, who he was extremely proud of. But it wasn't long before his attentions turned elsewhere.
Foxeye didn't notice Fawnheart until she became a warrior. He emerged from the warrior den the morning after she sat her vigil. When he saw her sitting there alone, framed by the rising sun, Foxeye fell hard and fast. After that he set out to win her over. After a bit of courting and several moonlit walks together, Foxeye and Fawnheart became mates. Shortly after this wonderous event, Foxeye saw his first apprentice receive their warrior name. Nettlepaw became Nettlestorm, and he could not have been more proud. Now without an apprentice to divert his attentions, Foxeye and Fawnheart set out to start a family. They tried for kits several times, only to be disappointed. Their first litter consisted of two still-born kits. Their second litter only had one kit, who was also still-born. Disheartened but undeterred, they tried again. On the third time they managed to produce a litter of three healthy kittens. Foxeye and Fawnheart were overjoyed. Around the same time ThunderClan's leader at the time, Dovestar, named Foxeye her new deputy. It seemed as though everything was going right for Foxeye, and he thanked the stars for all his good fortune.
It did not last, however. When his kits were five moons old, they wandered off. As soon as he and Fawnheart realized they were gone, they went tearing out of the camp to look for them. Foxeye tracked their scent to the river. When they arrived they found that their kits were drowning. Foxeye immediately jumped in after them, but struggled to reach them. While he tried desperately to save his kits, Fawnheart called out to a passing RiverClan patrol on the other side of the border. They, however, declined to help and went on their way.
Foxeye only managed to save their daughter, Cherrykit. Beechkit and Oak-kit drowned before he could reach them. Devastated and infuriated by RiverClan's refusal to help, Foxeye and Fawnheart returned to camp with their daughter. She was sickened and weakened by the ordeal. For several nights both parents slept outside the medicine cat den, praying that Cherrykit would recover. She died seven nights after the incident at the river. Foxeye and Fawnheart were devastated. While his mate slipped into depression, Foxeye threw himself into his duties as a deputy and a warrior. He became harsher and far more strict, to the point where he was almost a completely different cat. For a time his relationship with Fawnheart was icy at best; they were both heartbroken by the loss of their children, and neither knew how to deal with it. In time, though, they mended their relationship and came to accept what happened.
Not long after the tragedy at the river, Dovestar lost her last life to greencough. Foxeye became Foxstar, and stepped up to lead ThunderClan. He turned his thoughts away from having anymore kits and instead focused on caring for his clan. And with Fawnheart once again at his side, he felt as though he could take on whatever the world chose to throw at them. After assuming his new role, Foxeye named a more experienced warrior known as Yewtail his deputy.
Not a single moon after being made leader, Foxstar lost his first life to greencough. The illness was still burning through the ThunderClan camp like a wildfire, and even he succumbed to it. The plague passed almost as quickly as it came, and a moon later all was well. Despite the rocky start to his leadership, Foxstar persevered. He took on a new apprentice, a she-cat called Breezepaw. With Yewtail's counsel and Fawnheart's unending support, Foxstar excelled in his new role. There were times when he felt invincible. After seven moons of training Breezepaw, he gave her the warrior name Breezeheart. Two moons after that, he lost his second life during a disastrous hunting accident. Foxstar found the experience very humbling, reminding him that he was still just a cat.
Yewtail retired eleven moons into Foxstar's reign as leader. Foxstar chose his brother Tigerfang as deputy this time. The two worked well together, and the clan began to truly flourish. For almost twenty moons Foxstar and Tigerfang managed to guide ThunderClan through droughts, prey shortages, and another brief territory scuffle with RiverClan. During this time Foxstar mentored Icepaw and gave him the warrior name Icethorn. A few moons later he took on a new apprentice, an eager - though often reckless - cat named Beetlepaw. Foxstar and Tigerfang continued on and overcame each trial, and became stronger leaders for it. But there was one challenge that proved too much. Four wild dogs entered the territory, and caught a patrol by surprise. They lost two warriors - Nettlestorm and his niece Dustfeather - and the rest were forced the retreat. Tigerfang and Foxeye agreed the threat must be dealt with immediately.
Foxstar and Tigerfang led a large group of warriors and apprentices out to deal with the dogs. It was a horrible battle. At the end of it one of the dogs was killed and the other three chased out, but not without grave cost to the clan. Foxstar lost another life. His brother, Tigerfang, was grievously injured and died from his wounds before they could even get him to camp. Not only that, but Beetlepaw had rushed in to battle despite Foxstar's warning to hang back. He had been killed, and Foxstar blamed himself. Despite the fact the threat was over, he considered the battle to be one of his greatest failures. He appointed a respected young warrior known as Lightfoot as his deputy. She did well, but the clan still grieved the loss of Tigerfang.
For the third time, Foxstar outlasted his deputy. Seven moons after being named his second-in-command, Lightfoot died from an adder bite. This time Foxstar named Breezeheart, one of his old apprentices, as his new deputy. She did extremely well, and they worked together so well it was almost like having Tigerfang back. Shortly after he worked up the courage to take on a new apprentice: Morningpaw. She was Fawnheart's niece, and an orphan after her mother's death. He saw that she had potential, though resolved not to make the same mistakes he had with Beetlepaw. Foxstar was extremely strict with her, and pushed Morningpaw as far as she would go. And while extremely proud of her, he took care not to inflate her ego. After six moons of training he gave her her warrior name, Morninglight.
The moons leading up the Silence were a tumultuous time for all the clans. WindClan, ShadowClan, and RiverClan each appointed new leaders. Foxstar was once again forced to appoint a new deputy when Breezeheart was struck by a large tree limb and crushed one of her back legs. This time he appointed Morninglight, another old apprentice, as deputy. Shortly after ThunderClan's medicine cat Mistwhisker retired and handed the position over to Brightberry. Mistwhisker died of old age shortly after.
Then, the silence. Always a firm believer in tradition and StarClan, Foxstar could not understand what had gone wrong. He exiled his medicine cat for failing to contact StarClan, believing he must be part of the problem. But the silence continued. Tensions only mounted, and everything reached a fever pitch at the Battle of Fourtrees. Ever since his kits' death, Foxstar had harbored a personal hatred for RiverClan. He saw their appointment of a half-Clan cat as leader as another possible reason for the Silence, and accused them of once again breaking the Warrior Code. The argument erupted into a full-scale battle.
Since then ThunderClan has been biding its time, waiting and watching for a sign from the stars.[/ul]
