» appearance: When it comes to appearances, Nightheart definitely took after her father Crowpelt. She has the same short black fur, which has an almost bluish sheen in the sunlight. Her pelt is almost completely devoid of markings save for one small touch of white on her chest. She has the same elegant build as most WindClan cats: long body, long legs, built for running and agility. Nightheart is slender and lean, her body kept fit by the constant hunting and running that is required of WindClan warriors. Her beauty rivals even her mother's, though the only trait they seem to share is their eyes. Nightheart has shrewd golden eyes to match Palestar's gentle and loving ones.
» personality: Nightheart is known among WindClan to be both intelligent and sympathetic. She's the cat that many go to for advice, due to her willingness to listen and her sound judgment. In fact many would say she has a knack for helping cats with their problems. Nightheart pays attention to details and weighs all options, and uses her knowledge of the situation to offer the best course of action. This thought process is in truth her defining characteristic. She's an extremely intelligent she-cat, and quick on her feet. When it comes to hunting and battle, she can determine the best strategy in mere moments. Very few details escape her notice. As a result it's very difficult to trick or lie to her; Nightheart can smell a falsehood as surely as she can smell a rabbit. Her perceptiveness, though once her saving grace in almost all matters, has now become a very dangerous trait amongst her clan. Nightheart struggles to believe all that Spiderthorn and Palestar are telling her, but to show doubt would mean incurring their medicine cat's wrath. So she stays quiet for the time being. This silence is unusual for her, as Nightheart is often spirited and vocal in her opinions.
» background: Nightheart and her brother Ashclaw were born to Palestar - then Paleheart - and Crowpelt. Their parents were overjoyed at their arrival. As a kit, Nightheart was extremely close to her father. Some of her earliest memories involve playing with him just outside the nursery, while her mother watched with a smile on her face. But soon she and Ashclaw grew into eager young apprentices. At this age Nightheart became more spirited, and she began to clash with Crowpelt. They were both equally stubborn and always certain that they were in the right. Her relationship with her mother, at least, remained stable. And she and her brother grew closer than ever. They sparred together often and spent a great deal of their time at each other's side.
They were given their warrior names at the same time, and Nightheart had never been more proud. Not long after they became warriors, their mother became deputy. Then, not long after that, leader! She could hardly believe it; her mother was the leader, and her father the new deputy. (She and Crowpelt continued to clash, unfortunately.) For a time everything was wonderful. Nightheart was proud to be a warrior of WindClan, and proud of what her parents had achieved.
Then, the silence came.
Nightheart had always been a very strong believer in StarClan, and this sudden turn of events shook her faith to its core. Then, at the Battle of Fourtees, life as she knew it ended. The last Gathering erupted into a huge battle. At the end of it, Crowpelt was dead. Nightheart was devastated, and she turned to Ashclaw for comfort. Though she and her father had fought often, she loved him. His loss triggered a crisis of faith. For a time Nightheart went into a brief depression. She carried out her duties as normal, but spoke and ate little. In truth she barely noticed when Greyfeather, their medicine cat, died. But Nightheart was snapped out of her stupor when Spiderthorn announced her mother as StarClan's prophet. The declaration made no sense to her or her brother, but the rest of the clan was quick to accept this. Since then Nightheart has felt like a stranger amongst her own, and considers Ashclaw to be her only true ally.
