THUNDERCLAN DEPUTY AUDITION!

Every great leader needs a right hand, and Foxstar is no exception. ThunderClan needs a deputy! However, the following qualifications must be met. The other "What If Scenarios" are optional possibilities that you can toy around with.

Currently there is no cut-off for this audition. When I feel we have enough entries, I will close the thread and make a decision.

THUNDERCLAN DEPUTY MUST MUST:

- BE ABOVE 35 MOONS AND BELOW 55 MOONS. Foxstar is an old, old cat. Like, really old for an active leader. He needs a younger deputy, but he definitely won't give the position to an inexperienced or 'green' warrior.

- BE PURE THUNDERCLAN. There is no way that Foxstar would make a half-Clan cat his deputy. He wants to keep ThunderClan pure.

- BE A FIRM BELIEVER IN STARCLAN. Foxstar will not tolerate heresy, not even from his deputy.

-HAVE TRAINED AT LEAST ONE APPRENTICE. That's the code, man.

- BE WILLING TO DO PLOT POINTS AT A LATER DATE. Details are currently not available to the public eye.

While not an absolute must, it is highly recommended that you check the ThunderClan litter list, and add your deputy to one that fits. It's an easy way to get kin, and keeps us from ending up with infinite amounts of litters.

THE WHAT-IF SCENARIOS:

- HAS A VENDETTA AGAINST RIVERCLAN. Foxstar has a personal vendetta against RiverClan. Perhaps his deputy does too!

- ONE OF FOXSTAR'S OLD APPRENTICES. Foxstar is old. Really old. Old as balls, even. He's mentored a great many warriors throughout the moons. Perhaps his deputy was one of them?

- KIN TO FOXSTAR. None of Foxstar's kits survived to adulthood. But perhaps his brother's did. Maybe the deputy is one of his nieces or nephews.

- RECENTLY APPOINTED. In the wake of the old deputy's death/retirement, Foxstar has appointed a new deputy. They have a lot on their paws in such a trying time. Will they be able to help their clan pull through?

    Lithe, but by no means is she scrawny, Morninglight, at first glance, is an elegant queen.  Her light ginger colored pelt gives her a delicate, almost soft, appearance that is accented by the gradual bloom of white around her mouth. The edges of her figure are rounded into sloping curves that soothe the eye, and her silhouette suggests a weaker physique. Her fur has a pleasant fluff and her ears have a healthy tuft of inner ear fur to them as well. She exudes the epitome of a pretty kittypet... until she moves.

    Her noticeably less bulky muscles still ripple her pelt like any other warrior who has trained for battle, and her graceful, dainty legs, on another glance, have powerful haunches that promise a healthy kick or leap. She walks like a predator, her footsteps always soft, but her gait is powerful and ominously threatening. Her jade green eyes--that looked placid just a moment ago, as she seemed too look off in the distance--snap back onto you with a cold calculating glare that begs you to test her temper. If one would look at her longer than just a passing glance, it is clear that she is not some docile she-cat kittypet and her long claws, that she keeps rather sharp, have a lackluster gleam to them as she coyly grooms her paw.

    The appearance of Morninglight is one that invites you, almost begs you to sweep her off her paws, but her every action and look in her eyes dares you to just try it.

    If a cat only had one hour to meet with Morninglight and describe their first impression of her, more than likely the first word that they would use to describe her personality is brutal. Not in the sense that Morninglight is particularly harsh, but that while her appearance is so disarming while every ounce of her personality makes up for it in being so definite and passionate that it's almost like you went to smell a flower but the flower punched you right across the nozzle instead. Some could also say that her personality is so overbearing that she can be hard to stand, but Morninglight doesn't seem to mind in the least bit, or at least not in anyway that shows.

    It's almost a running joke among the apprentices that they are all glad that they didn't get stuck with her because they don't believe they could have performed well under her at all. Morninglight is extremely critical of herself, and practically the entire clan knows this as a fact. Whenever she makes a mistake, she takes it as an affront on her soul and does everything in her power to make it alright again, and then some. This could be in the form of passionate apologies and gifts of the best moss and feathers she could find, for the cat that she wronged, or it could be in the form of staying up night after night of watching the border herself after letting just one stray stumble across on her watch. Morninglight is her biggest enemy and picks apart her worst parts to brood over them before tirelessly working to rectify them. On one hand, it's a brilliant trait for a warrior to have as she is in a constant state of improvement, but on the other hand it's clearly driven a rift between her and her own clan as most don't think of her as approachable or relatable.

    The truth is, Morninglight is just passionate about everything she does, and if you truly care about something, why not learn how to do it right? This attitude extends blindly to the protection of her clanmates, for while she is not exactly the most personable or the most comforting, she cares deeply for them. Her clan is her life, and she's more than okay with getting a sleepless night in the name of improvement to be able to defend her home as best as she is able. They are her family and she is prepared to ultimately do anything for them, even the ones who avoid talking to her because they are afraid she will start criticizing them despite her only being a critic to herself. She understands that not every cat is going to hold themselves to the unreasonably high standards she holds herself to, and that's okay. She knows she is being slightly unreasonable with herself, and has even had her moons of soul searching to learn if this is truly what she wanted to do with her life. That isn't to say she thinks lowly of her clanmates, or believes they can do no wrong either. Morninglight is perfectly able to recognize the level at which a cat holds themselves to and all she does is slowly nudge that bar upwards until the cat is at the best that they can be, which can be on a myriad of different levels.
    
    It would be a lie to say that she has a maternal nature, because she definitely will not coddle anyone within any sense of the word, but she does have a heart. When cats tell her about their problems, her thought process is more along the lines of "I can fix it" than just listening. Her need to find a solution can set most cats off, especially if it's just something they wanted to discuss and didn't need fixing in the first place, but she means well. It's simply that Morninglight has a solution orientated mind. It's difficult for her to settle into anything, and she feels like she's sitting on her paws when her help is denied or futile. All she really does is just want to help make everything alright in the world and as it should be.

    As it is, it makes Morninglight perfect for her role as deputy. It's the position for all which she ever strived for in life. She's happily mated to her job and to her that's all the "mate" she'll ever need.
    


» background: 

    Morninglight has had an akward life ever since she was kitted. Due to complications in the birthing process, when Morningkit greeted the world her mother said farewell. Brindlecloud was already sick when she had given birth to her, and it's a miracle that Morningkit herself was born relatively healthy, but she never had the pleasure of really knowing her mother. Her father, too, was out of the picture as he had died in the moons during Brindlecloud's pregnancy. Being devoid of a family to take care of her, she was tucked into a litter of moons older kits whose mother, Milkflower, was willing to take her in. Being obviously too young for the litter, they ignored her at most times, even when she had started to open her eyes, to walk, and to speak. She was too little for their games, and they were out of the nursery before she even knew it. It was okay, though. She only felt a minute glimmer of sadness when they left; she never felt like she belonged with them anyway. Milkflower stayed with her in the nursery, but as much as Morningkit had appreciated the queen, she never felt like the she-cat was her mother.

Instead, Morningkit seemed to attach herself to a certain she-cat who always seemed to be not very far from the nursery. She became closer to her aunt, Fawnheart, than she had her adoptive mother. Whenever she became old enough to venture out of the nursery, Morningkit actively sought out the warrior. It wasn't long till they were very close, and who could blame Fawnheart for that, given the she-cat's past with her own kits? Of course, becoming close to Fawnheart meant that Morningkit inevitably would see a lot more of Foxstar, but the little kit never quite could get over the fact that Fawnheart's mate was the clan leader. When she was younger, and didn't really realize his importance, she did play with him or maybe had climbed over him to bat at his ear, but the closer she became to apprentice age the less the did that and the more she kind of looked at him with a sort of awe. In the times she did get over that starstruck feeling, she felt obligated to show him how great she would be as a warrior- "Foxstar, look I've been practicing my hunting crouch just like an apprentice!" Apparently, he saw something in her harmless kitten eagerness to please. At her apprentice ceremony, she was floored with the fact that Foxstar named himself as her mentor.

    Morningpaw worked relentlessly as though she had something to prove. She absolutely couldn't let Foxstar down after he had chosen her. Developing a particularly bad habit in comparing herself to other apprentices, she strived to be the absolute best. She never got tired of practice, because she knew that perfection was to follow good and long practice; and she took every suggestion or pointed-out-flaw to heart. Quickly, Morningpaw learned that the approval of her mentor was hard won and only the best warranted her the gentlest nod of his head. But, how grand was the day she did earn that small nod. That was a true reason to hold her tail high. As her apprenticeship went on, she ended up going to Fawnheart to tell her about her day, rather than her adoptive mother, to gush about the fact that she had earned a nod over her squirrel hunting technique that morning. It was almost like she was weaning herself off of the Queen who had taken care of her, and, though Morningpaw regretted the fact that she never felt close to her, she and Milkflower eventually became as close as you could be to strangers and still be in one clan. It was also further along in her apprenticeship that she realized she looked to Foxstar for a lot of guidance other than just being a warrior as well. Her mentor became her spiritual guide, and whether he knew it or not, her fatherly figure. She knew she could look to with the same trust any other cat had with their own father.

    She slowly began to realize that she saw Fawnheart and Foxstar more of her parents than any cats had been, they were the ones who guidance stuck with her. Before long, she showed their personalities and beliefs within herself. She harbored Fawnheart's love for the clan and took pride in being a steadfast protector just like Foxstar. For every night that Morningpaw spent restlessly practicing by herself to better impress Foxstar when the morning came and for every evening she spent sharing tongues with Fawnheart talking about everything in her heart, her love for them strengthened and in her soul Morningpaw couldn't deny that she felt like they were her true mother and father. It was something she could never say allowed, however. How could she put the two cats she cared about the most in pain because then she would only be a reminder of what could have been with their own kits?

    Moons passed, and Morningpaw was named Morninglight. Her warrior's ceremony was one of the proudest moments in her life. This was as though she was getting every single minute nod from Foxstar and every brilliant smile from Fawnheart all at once. Her training was all for that moment, to make her become a warrior, and she was happy. As silence fell over the camp that night she practically radiated her own warmth with the unending pride she felt in her heart. A warrior was truly what she was meant to be, and she was right where she belonged. Morninglight knew that if she had been born in any other place in the world, she could not have been as joyful as she had been in that moment where the dawn crested the treetops overhead and the sounds of the clan beginning to wake tickled her ears. She settled into her own nest to rest after her vigil the happiest she had ever been.

    As she became more solidified in her position as a warrior, Morninglight was given an apprentice, Hailpaw. Training an apprentice was probably her hardest challenge yet. For the first time the success wasn't just measured by how much effort she put in- but by how much another cat learned. At that time, she couldn't understand that not every cat was willing to work themself to the bare bones like she was willing to. Those first few moons were strenuous on both cats and they had even gotten into a few arguments as well, but, slowly and eventually, Morninglight learned. It was okay that other cats weren't the same as her. They no doubt pushed themselves just as hard, but on their own level and at their own pace. The apprenticeship began to look up and Morninglight glowed with pride for her apprentice as Hailpaw flourished. Towards the end of his apprenticeship, Morninglight was gifted the rank of deputy and with another esteemed nod from her former mentor, she took on the task with vigor, but never shirked her apprentice. The balance seemed to come naturally to her, and she had already proven as an apprentice that she functioned well on less sleep anyway. Her life was grand, and with Hailpaw's warrior ceremony coming just around the bend, Morninglight was comfortable.

    But that wasn't to last. The silence of Starclan stuck her hard. Morninglight was at an utter loss in her faith. How could their protectors abandon them and grow silent to their cries? The unease within her grew as the silence stretched, just like the relations between the clans as. Without Starclan to cover the moon to cease their fighting, the Gatherings seemed to end more and more on sour notes. She hardly batted an eye as their medicine cat was dismissed, she had much the same belief as Foxstar did--they did everything right so how could Starclan just leave them unless it was their medicine cat who was plaguing them? But, the silence continued and things took a turn for the worst.

    On that last full moon and the night of the Last Gathering, disaster struck. Some cat said something, and then before anyone could bat an eye, claws were out and pelts were flying. The result was chaos. The Four clans erupted into battle, enemies were on all sides and everything was a flurry of claws, teeth, and death. Fear inevitably stuck in, not only for herself but for her clanmates, for her apprentice. Too late did Morninglight realize she had lost track of her apprentice's pelt in the fray. When he resurfaced into her site, he was surrounded. In a mad dash that carried her over cats and yowling as she squeezed beneath others, she tried to make it to his side, but by the time she had reached it he was gone, lying in a growing puddle of his own blood. Anguish drove her courage that night, and as she limped home with a good many wounds that--thankfully--were not serious enough to warrant more than the meager care from a warrior attempting to fill the empty medicine cat's role.

    Her pelt eventually covered her new scars so they were only something she was reminded of when she groomed herself too long, but the scar on herself from the loss of Hailpaw never quite healed. She couldn't possibly blame anyone else but herself, and she carries his death on her like a silent invisible burden that she hasn't quite shaken off, and nor does she particularly want to. Sitting through the warriors ceremony that her apprentice should have been a part of was excruciating, and she could hardly look his mother in the eye.

    The moons continued to change and Morninglight could not abandon her duties as deputy, she never even entertained the thought for even a moment. She had thrown herself into her duties, shutting out the care and comfort from even Fawnheart and Foxstar. Comfort she didn't feel like she deserved. Even now, she feels like his body in weighing down over her shoulders, despite her taking a new apprenticeship with grace. It's only been a moon that she has had Wasp-paw under her care, but as much as she compares him to Hailpaw in her mind, she is fiercely determined to not let the past repeat itself. Wasp-paw better be prepared because Morninglight is going to be anything but soft on her newest apprentice.

        Dewspots is a gorgeous cat. She is soft and silky looking fur on long legs, with bright, intelligent yellow eyes that are very nearly gold. She is clean and smooth, no mottling or blurring present between the dark grey spots and crisp white colors of her coat. There is something about her look, the way she carries herself combined with general appearance traits, that just looks regal. She looks like she could be royalty, someone's prized possession who should be sitting on velvet cushions  instead of chasing squirrels through the woods, getting mud and dirt all over that pristine coat.  Dewspots is built long and all, with an appearance that looks deceptively slim and pretty. Yes, her legs are long and look a bit thin coming out from that thick, feathery coat, but Dewspots is actually quite muscular under all that fur. She is no wilting flower, she is not weak. She may look pretty and with great care, can look like she never has to lift a paw to do anything, but she works just as hard as the rest of her clan -mates and it shows if you pay attention. She's as strong and fast as she is pretty. Her coat is thick and soft looking, and it does it's job of keeping her warm in the colder seasons. It's length means that it requires some care to stay clean, smooth, and nice looking. The color of it doesn't make maintenance any easier, being a crisp, snowy white for the most part. The top of her head, her shoulders, back and tail, are covered in a smattering of large, dark grey spots.  The final addition to her fine looks are those nice, yellow eyes.

        Dewspots has never been that one cat that everyone's met at least once in their life no matter the length of it, that one cat who is loud, in your face, and has little to no respect for the rules and how things work. She is not that cat. She will never be that cat. She is also not the sort of cat you can rush, or the cat that doesn't really care about how nice their work looks or how good they are at things.  She is not the cat that easily questions things, and is reluctant to change even if all the evidence points in the right direction. She's Dewspots. Dewspots is none of those things, and if she can say anything about it all, she would tell you that she's never going to be any of them. She is a cat set in her ways.

        Dewspots is an authority figure, and though she hasn't done it many times, she enjoys being a mentor. She's a fairly effective one, too, when she does it. She doesn't let anything slide, and if her apprentices cause trouble, they are bound to face the consequences. She's not too severe with her punishments, but she is no softy. Nothing passes by her, and she is keen to let anyone who questions it know that she is the deputy and she is to be listened to. Even if she wasn't the deputy, she is a warrior and warriors are to be respected. She's also a rather staunch follower of the rules. Starclan may be silent, but that doesn't mean that they're just going to throw the warrior code to the side and do what they want. It's a system that's been working for moon after moon. There's no reason to go changing it now.  However, Dewspots is not cold and hard to break through. She may be stern, but when it comes to it, she treats her apprentices, and her clan, in a way almost akin to a mother. Dewpots doesn't let anything slide, but she cares for her apprentices, and her clan as a whole. She is firm and steadfast in her protection of  them all. she would do anything to keep them safe, even if she doesn't quite agree with the reasoning behind it, like how she would do anything for her own kits. She'd face all the foxes and badgers in the forest to keep them safe, and she'll do the same for any cat entrusted in her care. 

    She is not the most open of cats at time. She does tend to keep to herself more than some other cats, and she is very quiet. Never has Dewspots been big on talking, though she has learned to speak up when things are important. It took her a while to break through the quiet, private influence of her parents and talk, but she knows what she has to say is worth hearing. She is a cat who is content to go on walks by herself, and if she could do patrols by herself, she probably would. Dewspots wakes up earlier in the morning than she has to just to revel in the quiet, and goes to bed only when everyone else is settle, namely for the quiet but also because she can make sure everyone is safe and sound for the night. Along with being rather quiet and private, Dewspots can be a little too focused on perfection at times. Even when she was very young, no one could get her to rush into anything. Good things need lots of time and planning to turn out right, and Dewspots strongly believes in that philosophy the most. When she was an apprentice, it took her longer than others to learn things and move onto new skills. Not because she was slow; she just wanted to make sure she was doing everything to the best of her ability. There is no slacking off in Dewspot's world. you work, and you work hard at things until you're doing it the best you can. It applies to her own life, it applies to her apprentices, and it applies to her clan.

    There is no chance at changing Dewspots. Every development she has made, she has done through her own choosing.  No one forced her to start talking more, or to start trying to catch up to her peers when she was an apprentice. No one has forced her to do anything really. If she doesn't want to do it, Dewspots will not make the change within herself. She will make changes for her clan if she absolutely has to, if her leader demands it of her, but she won't change herself. Her belief in Starclan has not faded even though they have been silent for so many moons. She is concerned, but they never failed the clans before. This one time just has to be a fluke. It's hard to deal with, but things will work themselves out in the end. A solution to their problems will be reached in time, things will go back to normal. and she will no longer be faced with a world where cats are leaving the way they've lived for moons behind.

        Dewspots clearly remembers a time where Starclan was not silent.

         She was born to one of Thunderclan's more quiet and reserved couples. Pinefoot and Milkflower were both rather private cats. They didn't quite keep to themselves, but they had things they didn't quite feel like sharing with the world. One of those things, for the longest time, was their relationship status. The two were seen often together after sitting out their vigil on the same night, though they'd never really spent any time together as apprentices. No one was every really sure if the two warriors were a couple or not, or even, really, if they were actually close enough as friends to make that step. But they were, and eventually they did let their clan mates know, as quietly and peacefully as they could. They were very much in love with each other and one day hoped to have a family of their own. They weren't going to right then, but they would in time. Everyone would just have to be patient. There would be plenty of other kits and couples to fawn over in the meantime. The day did come when incoming kits were announced, but Pinefoot made everyone promise they would be quiet about it. He did not want his mate to be disturbed. It was her first pregnancy, and there was always a chance there could be complications. He was going to make sure there was as little chance of those happening as he could.

        The kits came smoothly and easily, and in rather rapid succession. Milkflower was relieved, because she was quiet tired of feeling too round and hadn't been looking forward to the actual birthing process, even though she was quietly thrilled to be having kits of her own. The first, and biggest, was a fuzzy grey and white wonder of a thing that the proud parents quickly dubbed Dewkit, and the second, just as white as his mother, was named Webkit.  That was all. Just two little kits curled against up against their mother, mewling quietly . No drama, no grand fanfare. Cats came in and out to see Thunderclan's newest members, with Pinefoot nearby to remind everyone to be quiet, and they all ooh'd and aah'd at Webkit and Dewkit like they were little works of art.   As the kits grew, it was plan to see that they had rather different personalities. Like her parents, Dewkit was very quiet and reserved. Webkit, though not as loud and rambunctious as kits tend to be, seemed like a ball of explosive energy in comparison to his almost silent, already serious sister who just could not be rushed to do a darn thing. He did get her to play and make friends, but she did it at her own pace. The best things, after all, are not meant to be rushed through all hurriedly. Good things take time. That's what their mother and father always told them, and mother and father were usually right about everything.  Around their fifth moon, their mother agreed to take in a kit who had no family after it's mother had passed, but both Dewkit and Webkit were too busy being as restless as they could be about becoming apprentices to have much to do with the poor thing. Eventually, the kits' sixth moon dawned upon them, and both were deemed eligible to become apprentices. They were healthy, they were happy, and neither of them had really made ripples in the pond when it came to causing trouble. Neither of them were really the ones to make waves, quite like their parents, though Webkit was prone to causing the occasional slight disturbance. The two received their names and were given to a pair of sibling mentors. Dewpaw went to the one sister, who was thrilled to be receiving an apprentice who she knew wasn't going to be any trouble at all after having had to deal with an apprentice who had driven her mad at times.  Webpaw went to the other sister, who took on her own personal challenge of drawing the energy and intensity she could feel in her apprentice out of him. Maybe now that he wasn't under the constant influence of his  parents and his  sister, he'd open up a bit more and just be himself.

    Her brother changed, but Dewpaw stayed very much the same, not that she didn't flourish under her mentor's care like her brother was. She just went about it in a different way. Her mentor caught on quickly that Dewpaw was not one to rush things, and so went at a slower pace than she would have for any other apprentice. Even with the slight reduction in instructional speed, Dewpaw managed to stay fairly close to her brother in terms of progress. He was light years ahead of her in hunting, but they were fairly evenly matched in just about everything else. Dewpaw proved to be exceptionally good on patrols. Where most apprentices would get bored, she seemed to enjoy plodding around the territory and making sure it was safe. She was a decent fighter, having learned how to use her size as an advantage when it could very well be a curse. Her quiet, focused nature was also a great help. She would turn out to be adept in battle-like situations, able to pick targets and lock on them and not be distracted by smaller things, but it was within the patrols that she met Greypaw, and so it was the patrols that changed her.

        Greypaw was an apprentice a few moons ahead of Dewpaw, who happened to end up on a lot of the same patrols Dewpaw's mentor brought her.  Maybe it was because his mentor was the brother of hers, or maybe it was because both mentors thought that the two apprentices could really learn something from each other. Greypaw could learn restraint-he could also learn a few lessons about how to be a bit more quiet-and Dewpaw could learn that absolute perfection wasn't needed for everything, that some things didn't need days upon days upon days of perfecting before the next step could be worked on.  She could also learn to be a little less silent. Her ideas were good. She just needed to learn to share them. The two did manage to bond after a few snappy arguments where they both got tired of each other's quirks, and patrols became more enjoyable for the both of them. Greypaw managed to calm down around Dewpaw, and Dewpaw began to talk more and worry about perfection less. Webpaw approved of the change in his sister. Webpaw approved of everything about Greypaw, which Dewpaw was grateful for. She really enjoyed having the grey-tailed apprentice around. He was funny and kind, though he did still complain a bit too much. He knew how to push her buttons so she'd stop dawdling, but she could never manage to be mad at him long, and as they grew older, she realized he was rather handsome, too.

        She pushed herself for the first time in her life, to keep up with him. She, at least, caught up with her brother so the two managed to receive their warrior names at the same time when she might have gotten hers a bit later because of the speed she'd been moving at. She didn't catch up to Greypaw, who became Greytail before she could even protest, but she wasn't too far behind. The two of them were much less private about their relationship than her parents had been, but the two of them were surprisingly even more secretive about growing their little family into something larger than even Pinefoot and Milkflower had been. The only cats who'd known about the pregnancy had been the parents themselves, the medicine cat, and Webfang who actually managed to keep a secret that big to himself until there was absolutely no hiding it. With her thick coat of fur, Dewspots did manage to hide it for a while longer than some, long enough to finish training her first apprentice, but she eventually did have to come out and say that she was moving into the nursery.  She had waited long enough.  Hailkit, Daisykit, and Dovekit were born right on their mother's twenty-fifth moon, three little kits in varying amounts and shades of grey and white. Though she swore she had no favorites, Dewspots clung rather tightly to her only girl. She loved Hailkit and Daisykit, but little Dovekit was the odd one out, and also the smallest. Her brothers were always tussling around for food and warmth, bumping into little Dovekit so much that Dewspots kept the little one close to her chest when Dovekit wasn't feeding. Surprisingly, it was Dovekit who proved to be the powerhouse of the bunch once eyes and ears were opened. Like her father, she was loud and incredibly friendly, and keen to rush into things without too much thought. Hailkit and Daisykit weren't terribly far behind her usually, but they seemed to have inherited a bit more of their mother's personality than their smaller sister had. 

    The time came for mother and kits to move out of the nursery, and so they did. Little Dovepaw was given to her uncle Webfang to mentor. Daisypaw and Hailpaw went to cats Dewspots knew only because they happened to belong to the same clan, but they seemed like good cats, and so she was willing to let her kits go off with them. She soon took up training an apprentice of her own, a kit that had been born not too long after she'd had her own. He was a nice enough cat, really. A bit too curious for Dewspots' taste, but she'd deal, even if it did mean having to talk her way out of possible altercations with other clan's patrols because he couldn't manage to keep his nose out of places it didn't belong.  During this time, she lost her father to illness, but she kept on moving through the grief. She felt like she had to. Two moons into her kits' apprentice training, everything took a turn that Dewspots had never seen coming. Her mate, one of her sons, her brother, and her daughter had gone to the gathering that night and had been in the midst of the battle which had occurred there.  Dewspots had stayed behind to watch over her mother. Milkflower hadn't been feeling too grand recently, and after the loss of her father, Dewspots wanted to stay by her side until she knew her mother would be okay. Daisypaw had stayed behind because he'd gotten in enough trouble with his mentor to warrant it, but the rest of their family was out.

    When cats came back wounded, or worse, Dewspots was concerned. When Dovepaw walked into camp on her own, scratched up, bloodied, and scared, Dewspots was frantic. When she found out Hailpaw, Greytail and Webfang weren't coming back alive, she very nearly lost it. Dovepaw, serious for what seemed like the first time in all her eight moons of life, managed to keep her mother calm. Daisypaw helped too, but Dovepaw had always been closest with their mother despite their vast differences in personality. After she was done with the initial grieving, she went back to training her apprentice, who still seemed ready to stick his nose in other clan's business, but for different reasons than before. He was angry and grieving, too. It seemed like they all were.  Her remaining kits returned to their training, with Dovepaw under the tutelage of a new cat who would never be able to replicate the relationship she'd had with her last. Angry at Starclan's silence but believing that they must have a reason for it, Dewspots went mostly quiet once more. There had to be a reason for not wanting to talk to the clans, but it stung that there was currently no reassuring knowledge that she'd ever see her lost loved ones again.

    Her remaining kits became warriors alongside her apprentice, in a ceremony that felt a little hard to watch. Daisyclaw and Dovefeather took their names with silent, somber acceptance, and still mourned the brother that would not get his name beside them. Dewspots faded into the background for a while. She didn't feel like she could deal with taking another apprentice at the time. It was too soon after losing a cat so important to her who would never finish his training. She'd been doing her duties and plodding along in her own way since that decision, pondering the silence and wondering who, exactly, she was supposed to be angry at over all of this. She'd wanted to have kits again, having loved the process of raising those little balls of fur into something impressive, but that plan was now gone. A lot of things seemed to be gone, but as long as her leader and her clan mates kept moving forward, she would to.

    And she has been, since the silence began and the battle occurred. She's finally feeling like she can take on an apprentice again, much to her relief. It was actually starting to get boring and rather sad, not having someone to teach things and care for. Maybe it will fill the gap that second litter of kits is never going to fill.  Recently, she has found another way to fill that gap. She'd never really seen herself as one to take a position of leadership, but when she was called to duty as Thunderclan's new deputy, she took the position. If her leader thought she was the right cat for the job, than she had to be There was no questioning it. She was qualified for the role, and she was a good warrior. The more she thought about it, the more the decision makes sense. It's kept her busy, and it's certainly kept her mind off of those kits she'll never get to have. Even if Greytail was alive, she wouldn't be able to have them now. The business of her new role keeps her too busy to mourn like she was, and she's thankful for it. It was high time she moved on with her life, anyway. What good was being sad going to do for her, or for anyone?

This tom is not one to be messed with. While not extraordinarily large or small, he certainly looks like a lot of cat for what his body provides. He’s a muscular sort of tom that can be highly intimidating purely from looks. Beneath unkempt fur are a few good scars that seem to tell a story of a great warrior. While most were gained in the main battle, the Battle of Fourtrees, that doesn't mean he isn't willing to accept the name that goes alongside them. One-ear's name, well, it should make it obvious what his most noticed trait would be. Just a caution to any younger warriors- pick your battles wisely. Some you are just not able to take on and you don't walk away whole from them. Luckily, it was only an ear and not an eye or worse. You learn lessons quickly that way. One-ear at least is a handsome, dark tabby whose intense stripes melt away into an obscure mess of brown and black all in one. His muzzle seems to be the only paled thing on him. A bright, almost orange shade of pink brings out his nose. Strange out his nose stands out so much more than those intense, pale green eyes that seem to stare right through.

Leading never seemed to be a natural talent One-ear gained, but he certainly learned to fill the role as necessary. For one, he isn’t the type of leader that walks without care across the thorns. No, he’s more of the type to sit back and examine everything around him, planning and producing something just short of brilliant genius at times. Very little riles him up to the point of temperamental. Sure, he can be bitter and vile when bringing up topics he refuses to discuss, but he tends to come across as cool-headed, if cold. Even when danger is near, this tom has learned that acting out of impulse has only caused trouble. On top of that, arrogance has no place in the heart of a cat for it only clouds their real judgement. Pride is not something he enjoys to savor and often still struggles to see himself as a true deputy. He still sees himself on the same level as his friends and despises when rank makes a statement more than his own name. But above all else, above even the best and worst of cats, there is StarClan. Even if they haven’t spoken in ages, One-ear refuses to accept that they’re gone or that anything happening now is without true cause. They are being tested, in his mind, and the non-believers will fall through soon enough. He’s determined to follow his belief in StarClan to the very last moment, no matter what others say. If it is his duty to purge the forest of the liars and traitors to StarClan, well, then so be it.

Reserved . Inflexible . Vengeful . Jealous

This guy doesn’t bond well with others, perhaps because he’s always been very naturally shy. Even from a young age, he’s always been better off alone than with large groups of others. As he grew up, the shyness gave away to a general sense of being closed off personally. Addressing the clan and acting as a leading warrior work much better this way. So personal relationships are difficult to build. On top of that, change is far from his favorite thing. Losing StarClan, the word of rebels from ShadowClan, a half-clan leader in RiverClan- is there no sanctity to the way things used to be? One-ear really dislikes when things change around him. It’s bound to happen, but just not like this. Even in making decisions, he hates knowing last minute changes happen. There has to be some sort of structure. It’s best to be cautious because between that and his naturally vindictive soul don’t make a great pair. Fool me once, shame on me and never regain that trust again. One-ear doesn’t trust easily and finds the need to return the pain whenever necessary. Knowing how badly Foxstar was hurt after losing his kits, One-ear is more than glad to follow in an attack and redeem what was done. His anger stems between that and a jealous part of him that looks at what others have and wish it only for himself. Others are happy, in love, and continuing on semi-normally despite the collapsing way of the clans. He wants to feel that happy. Foxstar is one of the oldest and most respected leaders to date, least he thinks so. He’d love to see that respected. And don’t even get started on relationships. Trust me, guys, you don’t want to step in on any girl he wants to claim as his own. Caution are best used with One-ear at any possible moment.

There is no prouder thing to a kit than to know their parents were good warriors, pure of blood and heart. Mostly blood though. Pikefang and Teaselfur were born and bred ThunderClan warriors. There was nothing that stood between them and their pureline. But they weren’t mates. No, the two never loved each other. Granted, they were still good friends but Teaselfur just wanted kits and Pikefang was convenient. That is how you got the three kits best known as Emberkit, Finchkit, and Volekit. To the pride and joy of their parents, all were healthy and perfect in their own eyes. Emberkit and Finchkit were immediately the overpowering ones. The two sisters were always wrestling once they could walk and were very social, ready to tackle the world ahead of them.

Little Volekit much preferred watching and listening rather than participating. At times, his sisters could encourage their bigger brother to join, but for every one round of wrestling, there were plenty sat out. Teaselfur never bothered pushing her son to join and interact. She just wanted to mother and love all over her kits. Pikefang didn’t involve himself much with them, perhaps leaving his job back in the past, two moons prior to their birth. Being raised with one parent isn’t so bad, especially with one like Teaselfur.

Even when they got near apprentice age, she still coddled them to near death. She was constantly talking to other warriors about who wanted to take the joy of mentoring her babies. Volekit hated the attention while his sisters’ relished in the idea of their coming apprenticeship. Least their wishes were granted. Emberpaw and Finchpaw, side by side, with Volepaw right behind them. He didn’t mind feeling unnoticed because it was just how he wanted things to be.

Due to her age and weakening body, their mother shortly after joined the elders despite her stubbornness to stay a warrior. (Not like she wanted to fight. She was just in denial about her age overall.) Volepaw almost found himself gracious because now he had all the time in the world for himself, or at least just between him and his mentor. While Emberpaw and Finchpaw had to learn self-control and grow up, the only son found that his shy and mature demeanor excelled quickly. Guess that was all Pikefang needed to know as he took random and sudden interest in his son. He quickly was gushing at any moment possible about that proud moment of his life known as Volepaw. Great, would there never be a break?

What more could a young tom do than ignore it the best he could? At least there was one thing going for him, and that was a young she-cat that caught his attention, Rosepaw. Unfortunately, Volepaw was still painfully shy and never could approach her. Yet she seemed sweet enough. Emberpaw was great friends with her and from what he could tell, she was a more gentle soul and less rambunctious than the rest of his family. Even at a young age, he was convinced that Rosepaw would be his mate.

Then the day came and the trio were named warriors. Emberthroat, Finchwing, and Vole-ear. After vigil, his sisters practically tackled him and started spewing about how he just HAD to admit his crush to little Rosepaw. He just had to! Why wouldn’t he? That’d be silly, wouldn’t it? Just silly, silly, silly! Vole-ear was never one to take pestering well and broke down, agreeing to their crazy ideas. With all the courage he could muster up, he eventually stepped up and dared to ask his crush about her feelings.

Lo and behold, she shared them. The two seemed to go from practically strangers to immediate lovebugs overnight. It was impossible to separate them. The two were even reluctant to sleep in separate dens. Vole-ear would always be the first up to greet her though. It took a couple moons, but eventually Rosepaw was named a warrior as well. So now it was Vole-ear and Rosewhisker. Well, how can anybody be shocked to hear that it only took a couple of moons before she moved into the nursery.

Overall, nothing could be greater. He had a mate, his sisters were off his back, Teaselfur had backed down, and even Pikefang seemed to stop pestering his son.On top of that, Foxstar had given him an apprentice- a little cat named Tigerpaw. It was the happiest time of his life. At least, it was for a while. After a long hunt, Vole-ear had returned and saw a sobbing Rosewhisker at the den of the medicine cat.

She had miscarried.

He wanted to be hopeful. He wanted to believe StarClan wouldn’t just do this to him. The two stayed strong together, knowing that surely they were only being tested. The two tried again. But it never seemed to result. Rosewhisker soon found out that it just wasn’t meant to be. She couldn’t have kits.

Where she accepted it, Vole-ear reacted with disdain. What was once sweet love turned to bitter hatred. He blamed her for this, thinking only of what little hurt pride was left. There was no way StarClan would be so hostile to him like this. It was impossible. In the end, he retreated into his warrior duties and working with Tigerpaw more than his own mate. Least he was excelling and showing success where Vole-ear himself had failed to. If all else failed, then surely there could be some pride to be found in Tigerpaw’s warrior ceremony where he was named Tigertail.

Yet it felt… unsatisfying.The random, miraculous joy came from the worst of accidents. A rough storm had broken a branch which came loose, falling on the deputy, Breezeheart. The injury was severe and a new deputy would be needed. Vole-ear thought nothing of it because, well, he was just another warrior. So why Foxstar called out his name shocked probably close to everybody. Deputy? Him? The first cat to congratulate him was Rosewhisker, but the newly named deputy of ThunderClan shrugged her off.

That was the worst decision he could have ever made. The world slowly crashed down around him. First, his mother passed. She was elderly and it was to be expected, but it still hurt. Not long after, even Pikefang fell to age and illness. He had never been close to the tom, yet there was still a pain. His sisters became concerned for him. He closed them out. Rosewhisker was worried for him. He closed her out even more than his sisters.

One whole year of cold shouldering and trying to forget how confused he still was. The more time he had as deputy, the more he fell into step with the work. It was going well despite the whole StarClan quiet spell. Then there was the battle- no. Not just the battle. The loss. As deputy, he dutifully followed Foxstar and nearly wished he hadn’t. That battle broke out and many cats were lost. Among them happened to be his former mate, Rosewhisker. For the first time in ages, emotion outside of his reserved mask showed through. He leapt to defend her, long after she had been killed, only to find he had taken on more than he could handle.

Rumor has it the WindClan deputy died in that battle. Considering their own lost numbers, he was lucky to be alive. Some warrior, unknown to this day, had taken a vicious bite to his ear and tearing it to a nub. The battle left a sour taste not only in his mouth but the whole clan’s. Foxstar dubbed him as One-ear, to remind him of that battle and his actions. While some may consider it an honor for the bravery shown, he considered it a constant referral to how he had treated Rosewhisker in her last moments.

One-ear refused to step down from his position and continued on. Having no medicine cat was no help whatsoever. Maybe StarClan was looking out for them. After all, he was alive to see another day. Who could be lucky enough to say that? One-ear gradually tries to walk on but seemed to have resorted back to his coldness. Maybe he doesn’t want to admit his faults or still blames himself for Rosewhisker’s death. Regret fills him and jealousy of others’ happiness overwhelms him.

For his clan, he continues on. He has to. All of this has shown him that they need StarClan and their faith more than ever. Foxstar is leading them in the right direction and they have to fight for their gracious ancestors. If they work hard, surely they can reach them again. If they do, maybe, just maybe, he can be reunited with Rosewhisker just one more time to say the only thing he wished he had told her all along.

Alright, I have reached a decision.

After thinking long and hard, I've decided ThunderClan's deputy will be MORNINGLIGHT.

Dewspots and One-ear are both awesome characters, and it was a really tough call. Thanks for trying out you guys. I will add them both as warriors unless either of you tell me otherwise.
