» appearance:
Ratpaw is rather small for her age, but should meet proper standards by the time she is a warrior. Her stout body makes her perfect for running and her always twitching ears pick up sound easily. She is coated in a thick layer of black fluff for which she gets her name. Her eyes are a dull pine needle green. She has almost perfect teeth, except for her right canine that is chip from a rather unfortunate encounter with a rock.
Another thing that should be mentioned about this dazed little cat: she has no tail. Where did it go? Not sure, but it is gone. Therefore, she does not like heights. It is preferred to stay planted on the ground, rather than in a tree. Ratpaw is a clumsy walker when she is not out on a mission or has a set task in her mind. She exaggerates her steps while in camp to avoid unwanted collisions (She’s kind of slow). While on a mission or hunting, her head is always perked up, her tight body moves with a new purpose and her dull, glazed eyes look more alive. She moves swiftly and properly. Always behind her leader, she listens intently for commands.
» personality:
Ratpaw, when she was Rat’kit’, was and energetic rascal, who got into every kind of trouble imaginable (did she tell about the time she fought off a rock 'monster'). At about four moons though, she had a drastic change and became more…drifty. Her mother, Sunstreak, become concerned, but the medicine cat found nothing wrong with her. Bits of her mind just seemed to have faded.
Now Ratpaw is almost constantly in a dazed when she is in camp. Her glazed eyes look through things and her mind feels like it’s dribbling away. That is why she tries to keep herself occupied. She does meaningless task so she can focus and can be found regularly counting rocks or wild flowers. But she can only do so much, so she looks for leadership to her guide most of the time. She is a follower, not a leader.
She enjoys the company of others, but mostly their presence. She gets lost easily in conversations between more than two cats and does not pick up on non-verbal cues very well . She likes direct commands and no confusing analogies (like: "The bee likes the flower, but not the honey). Her mind is foggy and easily changed, but she knows a couple of things for certain about herself: She wishes she could express herself better, she is fiercely loyal to friends, and she likes chasing rabbits.
» background:
Ratpaw was the single miracle kit to her mother, Sunstreak. Her earliest memory was her mother’s head perched above her crooning. She remembered her laugh as she squeaked out “My little Rat, my little Ratkit”. Her soft hazel eyes were always full of love and her lush tail coiled around the tiny kit all the time. Her mother loved looking at her all day and always whispered in her breathy voice; “You look just like him”. Ratpaw was never really sure who “him” was, but she slowly pieced it together. Besides she knew her mother was not missing a tail as she was. She also knew her black fur stood out against the light furred queen.
By her second moon of life Ratpaw was exploding with energy like any kit would. She pranced around the nursery and attacked loose twigs and dead grass. She ‘protected’ her mother from pebble ‘monsters’. She remembered one instance when a rather large pebble approached her mother. She had pounce on it and bit down hard to put an end to the fiend. She ended up breaking her fang and yowling in pain.
By four moons something had started to happen to the energetic kit. Her once blazing green eyes dulled and her always moving paws slowed. Eventually the kit stopped and just stared into space. Her frantic mother had forced the medicine cat to look at her over and over again. Finally the queen accepted that her little kit was “just a little drifty” and nothing could be done. The queen became compulsive with her kit and over protective.
Ratpaw though was resilient; she learned how to fix herself, a little bit at least. Little bits of her mind seemed to have faded for good though. She began to count and put her mind to things. Doing things made her head feel right. She would trot aimlessly around and count whatever she could find. She would even groom Sunstreak’s paws and ears. On her sixth moon, her still protective mother watched her Rat'kit’ get named Ratpaw. Now a days, she is not the best at fighting. Sometimes her instructors’ words blur together and she gets lost , but she tries her best. What she excels at though is chasing down rabbits. When her feet pound hard into sandy soil and her breath comes out heavy, her mind feels crisp.
