[/i] for them to sleep so late- and had even talked to the two other cats who inhabited the den. And this was all before dawn! So, yes, it was a good day. It was going to be even better, too, because the large kittypet had gotten his pet to open up the den entrance- allowing him access to their large garden outside.

Unlike most other days, however, where he just lazed about- today Thor, the magnificent cat he was, had a plan. Today he was going to venture into the forest and meet these 'wildcats' the lazy cats around here spoke of. He imagined these forest cats were savage beasts- the his size or larger- and a true specimen of the feline species. Cats worthy of his attention.

Not that he didn't enjoy speaking to the other cats who lazed around his garden- but they were small creatures, often fat and lazy, and sometimes he desired to speak to a cat as perfect as he was. He was a true perfect specimen, after all. Born from two ginger parents- ginger she-cats were rare, you know- so he was truly, truly rare and perfect.

He mulled these thoughts over as he leaped from his pet's back fence and onto the forest floor. The dead leaves crunched under his paws as he walked forward, tail flicking back and forth. He had already spent a few minutes cleaning his fur- he had to look good for a special day- and felt he was finally ready to meet his new companions.

Yes, today would be a very good day.

[/font]," She said aloud, mostly for her apprentice's benefit than anything. Narrowing her eyes, she followed the borderline towards the scent. It wasn't long until she could pick out the bright ginger fur among the dying plants of the leafbare season. Coming to a halt, she turned to face Wasp-paw with her best stern-mentor gaze. "Now, he doesn't smell like a clan cat, but be on your guard."[/ul]

Wasp-paw, Apprentice

 Barely contained excitement welled up in Wasp-paw as he followed his mentor, as silently as he could through the forest. His untrained paws thudded dully against the ground, cracking against dead leave but he was trying. It didn't help that Morninglight's legs were so much longer than his. Even his missteps couldn't bring down his mood. He got to go on patrol and his siblings didn't. Sandpaw and Quailpaw were still stuck back at the camp. This elated Wasp-paw as he struggled to keep up.

  As they came upon the border  Morninglight stopped for a moment, "There's a cat nearby."


  Wasp-paw lifted his head, trying to smell was his mentor had smelled but could only scent stale, dead leaves. A little frustrated with himself he surged to kept pace with the she-cat, not wanting to fall behind. As a they neared the intruder Morninglight turned to fix him with a stern glare causing Wasp-paw to stand at attention.
 "Now, he doesn't smell like a clan cat, but be on your guard."

  Wasp-paw nodded diligently"Yes Morninglight."
  As much as he hated being treated like a kit he needed to prove to Morninglight he could handle this. Curiously he stretched trying to catch a glimpse of the stranger cat.

" he started as he trotted towards the two, "are you lost? I would be careful out here, if I was you- the cats nearby say wild cats live out. Savage things, I hear. They would eat you up."

He grinned carefully as he spoke, finally coming to a stop in front of the two. His tail twitched to the left and his ears swiveled around as he looked them over. Yes. Definitely loners. They weren't as well kept as a kittypet- and- why- they were too small to be forest cats. Maybe previous kittypets- the she-cat was ginger and the kit did look somewhat exotic. What did they call them? Ticked? He couldn't remember.

"I will happily escort you home, if you are lost or frightened- I'm not scared of such stories."

[/font]," She said as she circled around Wasp-paw to face the stranger once more. The expression on her gaze went from mentoring to distant but vaguely threatening. Tail rising behind her in a display of confidence, she started to make her leisurely stroll over to the tom. Coming closer, her nose vaguely wrinkled in disgust at the clear stink of the twoleg place hanging about the tom- the nauseous smell that monsters breathed coupled with milk and the dour stench of a twoleg.

"...They would eat you up," the cat finished and she had to blink at him, an almost exasperated look in her eyes accompanied with an irritated twitch of her tail. There was nothing but disdain for this plump thing of a cat. Coming up about a foxlength from the tom, she stopped and cast a small glance at Wasp-paw to make sure that her bristly and often over-confident apprentice stayed within her orders of non-engagement. "...scared of such stories."

"It's a kittypet," She announced for Wasp-paw, letting her gaze stay on the ruddy tom for a moment before looking back at the stranger. Morninglight, disregarding the small speech the ginger tom had just graced them with, held a look of contempt as she gestured to the large cat with her tail. "Can't you smell it? That's the twoleg place, the really foul, heavy scent. You can also smell the sweet milk on him too- that's how you know he's a kittypet if the belly and roundness doesn't give it away."

She then openly regarded the rest of the tom-cat with a critical eye, assessing him and despite the analysis her eyes continued to hold disdain. A more amused look came over her face as she cleared her throat.

"There will only be need for an escort if you do not remove yourself from this territory," Morninglight said authoritatively, clearly addressing the kittypet tom. "You are trespassing on Thunderclan grounds."[/ul]

Wasp-paw, Apprentice

He listened studiously as Morninglight turned back to him, explaining unkindly how to identify a kittypet.Now that they were closer Wasp-paw could smell what his mentor was talking about, committing the scent to memory. Next time he would catch the scent first, Morninglight would be proud of him then for sure.   

  A twinge of disappointment shot through Wasp-paw having been told not to run this cat off. Even with his small stature, barely a moon out of the nursery, he was sure he could take on a soft kittypet. Though, as the strange tom had come closer it was clearer to see he was large. Larger than any cat he'd ever meet. So he could admit that maybe he would need Morninglight's help, lest the big oaf sit on him and crush Wasp-paw beneath him.

 The young apprentice bristled at the mention that he and his mentor could be anything other than clan cats. Kittypet life must have made this cat mouse-brained as well as fat. His mentor's scorn eased Wasp-paw's anger leaving him smug, puffing out his chest proudly.

 "You are speaking to the Thunderclan deputy and her apprentice," he chipped in, unable to help himself.

[/i]! Why he'd- How dare they! He had been kind, jovial even, and they taunted him like this! It was an outrage! He would not stand for it!

"Round belly? Perhaps your starving physique has warped your mind- but I am not fat!" Rude! Rude, rude- How dare these little morsels even consider the notion! He was a PERFECT specimen- not some fat, lazy cat you'd find in the gardens near his den. His tail lashed back and forth as he spoke, his fur having become bristled and sticking straight up from his agitation.

"And I can go as I please- I don't smell your scent across this entire forest!" He huffed and puffed, sticking his chest out. Surely these weren't the forest cats he had heard of? These tiny, nasty little- little mice! ThunderClan? That sounded silly.

[/font]," She began her contradiction. "You'll find that we do have our borders clearly marked around our entire territory. It's not our fault that your addled kittypet nose did not deign to notice."

Morninglight drew herself up as she narrowed her eyes at the tom, her tail swishing lightly behind her. The amusement began to dwindle on her face in favor of something a bit more fierce, putting on a mask much closer to wrath.

"I'm going to ask you again, kittypet," Her tone was warning, slow as she spaced out her words with more emphasis. "Leave our territory, or we will be forced to remove you ourselves. I also suggest you learn our scent and never return. We are far less lenient with second offenders."

Turning her head slowly, in an almost exaggerated fashion to her apprentice, but keeping her eyes locked onto the stranger's, she opened her mouth to speak to Wasp-paw.

"Wasp-paw, what does the warrior code say about killing?" She asked, in the same haughty fashion that one uses when they know the exact answer to the question they are asking.[/ul]

Wasp-paw, Apprentice

 Wasp-paw struggled to contain his mirth as the ginger kittypet sputtered indignantly. The dumb oaf's soft life addled his senses so much he couldn't even recognize marked territory when he came across it. Wasp-paw would bet that this tom had never even hunted before. Calling them starving during leaf-bare, obviously food would be scarce. He had no respect for the struggles of clan life and Wasp-paw relished knowing Morninglight would put him in his place.

 His glee was quickly reined in as Morninglight turned back to him. Expression schooled back into one of a serious deputy's apprentice as she asked him about the clans stance on killing. There was a quick second of mild panic that he would let her down before his training kicked in. Though he'd only been an apprentice for a moon Morninglight had been quick to drill the warrior code into her charge.

 "A warrior doesn't need to kill, unless the cat is outside the warrior code or in self-defence," He recited back fixing the tom with a sharp glare.
