Short and still a tad pudgy with her kitten fat, Quailpaw is petite and definitely much younger looking than her siblings. Her pelt, however, has greatly evened out and she has very little of the fluffy-down look that kittens have. It's color is also coming in brilliantly and the top of her back, head, and tail are a silver blue while her underbelly is a gentle sorrel color. Other than her slight chubbiness, she seems to have grown into body rather well, though her head is still rather small to make her bright green eyes seem much bigger than they really are. She hopes that she won't remain baby faced and chubby forever, but at least she would be rather adorable for the rest of her life. Even Quailpaw has to admit that wouldn't be a terrible thing, though she definitely would prefer not to be cute and cuddly for the rest of her life.
» personality:
Curious--Sprightly--Bright--Accepting--Indecisive--Scatterbrained--Apologetic
Naturally inquisitive, Quailpaw likes knowing a little of everything there is to know. Piping up in her soft--but usually cheery--voice, she loves to ask about anything that other cats will let her. When she asks "how are you today?" she genuinely wants you to open up to her and tell her everything about her day. "What are the places this plant grows?", "Why don't monsters leave their paths?", "How high do you think birds can fly?", and "Why does a tree sometimes have green skin under the bark, but other times brown?" are just a minute sampling of the kinds of inquiries that pour from her mouth with a delighted thirst for the truth behind each.
Naturally, she has been told to hush on several occasions, and she obediently ducks her head as she closes her mouth each time... But the curious gleam in her eye never truly fades as she looks around her world in wonder. When prompted, her natural chipper gushing comes out without pause, but her silences are not so happy. Quailpaw's natural response is to apologize for "pestering" other cats. It's cutting off a part of her at the mere request of another, but she is resolute in her apologies and avoids the cat in question when she is struck with a wondering thought. It is very rare that she forgets herself, as she has a very excellent memory. She knows every cat in her clan, and can name all the leaders and their deputies by heart. To purposely "pry" when someone has told her to knock it off would be a slight on them, and so she keeps her ducks in a row by keeping a mental checklist of the "open" cats as well as the "closed" cats.
Some might say she would have been better off as a medicine cat apprentice, but as there is no medicine cat to take her that her only choice was to become a warrior. She would disagree; Quailpaw doesn't dislike being trained as a warrior at all. She likes learning, and that includes the right hunting pose to take in order to stalk upon a squirrel versus the right movements to do the same on a mouse. She would never say that her placement as a warrior apprentice was anything less than the right choice. Though, Quailpaw could never rightfully say at this moment she is entirely happy as her mother coddles her to the point where she feels useless and only a child while her brother, Wasp-paw, is just as quick to strike her down as she is to pull herself. Her self-esteem is very fragile, and as such she usually spends her less happy thoughts deciding on the right thing to say. This can also make her seem slow in comparison to her fellow apprentices. It also is not helpful that she changes her mind a lot.
» background:
Quailkit's birth, though a wondrous thing for Thunderclan as kits are a promise of future warriors, was not entirely met with joy. In fact, there was much anger to be faced from certain cats of the clan. Redstorm had a mate before Quailkit's mother, Clovertail. Their relationship became soured when the only kit conceived from their coupling died. The two split, and the heartbroken Clovertail from her recent loss of her son and mate swept into Redstorm's life. Though there was concern about Clovertail's own birth, Quailkit and her siblings came into the world with ease.
Tensions resurfaced as Redstorm's previous mate, who herself was harbored in the nursery as she was expecting her own litter with her own new mate, was outraged by the fact Redstorm named the first born son after his lost son Sandkit. Since their naming, the queen has shown the entire nothing but disgust and disdain. But, there was more to life to take in than just one disapproving queen.
Quailkit, as the only daughter of the litter, was practically smothered by her mother and babied almost at every moment. This seemed to be a curse for her as she feebly struggled to assert herself from underneath her mother's overbearing care, her brother, Waspkit, hated her for every bit of attention their mother gave the she-kit. The meek Quailkit was at a loss and found solace rarely and often away from her own family. She even had taken to hiding in the other dens to avoid encounters with her brother as well as her mother, only coming out when she was physically fished out by her father or her mother to be given a scolding.
The vicious cycle of getting pampered by her mother, retreating, getting picked on by her brother, and retreating again never seemed to end. Her apprentice ceremony was a welcome respite to the madness, and she turned to her new mentor with anxious relief. With any luck she would get a warrior who would not smother her and understand her hesitancy, maybe perhaps be eager to answer her question. So, going into her apprenticeship she remains tentatively hopeful that things will begin to look up.
