Welcome, visitor. Welcome to a forest where four Clans reside in constant competition, where loners and rogues struggle on the sidelines, where the strong are outmaneuvered by the weak and the brave make their own way through will alone. Welcome to a forest where StarClan does not speak, and no cat knows the reason for their silence. In a forest where nothing is certain, the only constant is the will of individuals to survive because every breath could be their last.
When the ancestors they vaunted went silent, there was confusion at first. Then there was panic and fear, unrest and blame. Moons passed without a word from the Clans' starry ancestors, and tensions rose until at last a bloodbath at Fourtrees put an end to the Gathering tradition. Thus began a period of silence between all the Clans of the forest—one which continues to stretch on with no end in sight.
Now StarClan has been silent for a full year, and chaos still reigns. ThunderClan and RiverClan are on the verge of war, and conflict within ShadowClan has split the Clan into two factions—the believers and the rebels. No cat hears from WindClan any more, as they keep to themselves and their so-called prophet, worshipping her in lieu of the ancestors who no-longer offer their guidance. As falling leaves herald the leaf-bare that is on its way, no cat knows what the coming moons will hold for the forest's four Clans.

As the warriors den began to rouse, Sparrowflight wasted no time in enacting his plan for the day. He had already planned the night before to take Wirepaw out hunting. They had already gone over the most basic techniques and today wanted to help her refine them. For this he wanted a second opinion, and also some company wouldn't hurt as they trudged through the marsh. Sparrowflight prodded Falcontail to wake his brother.
"I'm going to take Wirepaw out hunting," he said as soon as Falcontail was awake enough,"I'd like it if you would come with us."
Sparrowflight knew that sometimes his brother felt a little left out. Because the larger tom was easy to weaken and get sick he had missed out on a lot of things. It didn't help that Sparrowflight had gotten an apprentice instead of him. He didn't want his brother to resent him, sometimes it seemed as if he were the only family he had left.
"We'll meet you at the camp entrance," he told Falcontail before heading over to the apprentices den. The morning was cool, verging on chilly, but the cloudless sky held promise for the day to warm.
Poking his head into the apprentices den he called for Wirepaw, "Time to get up. I'm taking you hunting."
The small tom waited outside the den for his apprentice. As soon as she was ready he nodded to her and lead them to the entrance to hopefully meet with Falcontail.
Her tail flicked and her paws wiggled as she dreamed. A dream where Wirepaw fought valiantly against a fox with a faceless cat a her side. She gave off little huffs as she growled at her opponent. Wirepaw felt powerful in the dream as she tore at the fox with moves made up. Just before she could win the battle with her fearless companion...
Her eyes snapped open to see her mentor at the den opening. Wirepaw gave a faint groan, having been torn from a great dream. But duty calls, even if not at the best time. Stretching onto her paws, the young apprentice only a small moon into her training shook herself on her venture into the open camp. The camp which she always thought to be drained of light. Wirepaw looked over to mentor.
"Hunting today?" the she-cat asked with a perk in her voice, tail whipping behind her in her excitement. It seemed to be powered by the even the faintest traces of sun that the camp let in. "Where are we going?" she pipped up excitedly and followed her mentor, "I know we're not going to that burnt tree, not the best place for prey with the frequency of apprentices. Is it that other tree? With the good sun?" Wirepaw's head didn't seem to want to stay in place today, eyes searching the camp as they passed it, trying to count how many were there at present.
"Maybe that stream near the Thunderclan border? Are we after frogs today? Doesn't the marsh have frogs too? Also a lot of bugs, the bugs are fun!" The weird whiskered apprentice suddenly shut up after her exclamation as they got closer to the entrance. "Are we going alone...?"
Falcontail blinked open bright amber eyes as he felt a paw prodding into his side; he hadn't truly been sleeping, not deeply - merely a doze - so it hadn't taken much to wake him up. That said, he was still somewhat tired - he hadn't been able to sleep well the previous night because of a little bit of a cough, but the gray-and-white warrior refused to consider it anything but a tickle in his throat. Besides, he'd been sick enough to be more than familiar with the feeling, so at least he could be reasonably certain he wasn't seriously ill. It didn't mean it wasn't annoying, though. He was less than pleased at being kept up half the night - though he would never complain, especially when he was sure more than a few of his Clanmates had probably heard his occasional coughing, and perhaps even been kept up themselves because of it.
As it were, and tired as he might feel, he was wide awake when he heard his brother speak - "I'm going to take Wirepaw out hunting. I'd like it if you would come with us." Falcontail nodded once to Sparrowflight, fighting back the urge to yawn, and as his brother turned and padded from the den, telling him he would meet him at the camp entrance, the large splotched tom rose to his paws, giving his weary body a long stretch. His muscles ached a little - he'd spent a lot of the day yesterday hunting, filled with an itching energy that he knew only came from being so wound up as of late - but he felt good, pleased at being asked to go with them. Perhaps his brother was looking for a second opinion on his apprentice's training - and while Falcontail certainly didn't resent him for having an apprentice, it didn't mean he hadn't often wished for an apprentice of his own. Maybe seeing how Sparrowflight handled Wirepaw today - and being allowed to offer his own opinion, if asked - could be a little bit like practice. And some part of him was also pleased to not feel so alone for once - though another, smaller part of him was perhaps a little bit averse to spending time with his littermate, for fear of one day losing him as he had lost the rest of his kin. But today was not the day to let these thoughts run wild in his head - Falcontail wasted no time in pushing them aside. He would not allow today to be spoiled - nor would he allow his skills to be dampened by any shred of bitterness, as the Clan needed the prey they would be bringing back.
As Falcontail finished stretching each limb in turn, filled with a new energy, he moved to follow his brother out of the den, spotting him and his apprentice approaching the camp entrance. "Are we going alone?" Wirepaw had just finished asking when he reached them, and Falcontail flicked his tail in a greeting as he glanced at her and his littermate in turn. "Morning," he mewed softly, dipping his head. He didn't say anything more than that - certainly Wirepaw could guess that he was to be coming along with them from that, if Sparrowflight didn't explain. Either way, Falcontail shifted his weight a bit as he waited for them to depart - his paws were tingling with eager energy, ready to follow wherever they were led.
