Icethorn is, at a first glance, a large cat. He's not a giant by any means, but most of his intimidation factor comes from how big he is. Big boned with thick shoulders, a relatively short neck and tail, and a typical scowl or otherwise displeased expression on his face usually give him an off-putting appearance. He isn't a cat you'd ever want to mess with, as his fighting skills in tandem with his musculature and bulk give him the ability to hold his own against most cats he would ever find himself facing in battle. He has gotten into quite a few skirmishes over the years, and although most of his scars have faded over time, they were once proof that he is a formidable opponent.
Icethorn is getting older, however. Though he is still on the tail end of his prime, his age will begin to catch up with him in the next couple of years. His once soft, white fur has become more coarse over time, thinning out more in some places than in others. His body has grown tough and battered through the trials of being a warrior. Despite this, his senses are still as sharp as ever. He is in as good a condition as he'll ever be, and he doesn't see himself slowing down anytime soon. Icethorn is determined to make ThunderClan put up with him for a long time to come.
» personality:
stern . humorless . serious . adamant . loyal
Icethorn is not the most friendly or approachable of cats. He's the type to put work and duties above all else, only sparing time for idle chat once all of the day's tasks have been accomplished. He's the type to criticize another cat if they don't pull their weight or if their work needs improvement. Icethorn is especially hard on young warriors and on apprentices, even those not his own, and this has lent him the reputation of being a wonderfully strict killjoy. He does not put up with antics or tomfoolery under almost any situation, and StarClan help you if you are one such rowdy apprentice finding yourself under Icethorn's care.
Icethorn takes his duties extremely seriously. It's as if they've always been his sole function, and his relationships with other cats have suffered as a result. That isn't to say that he doesn't care about others, because his loyalty to his leader, his superiors, and to what it means to be ThunderClan are unquestionable. Icethorn follows the warrior code to the letter with such unwavering conviction that he is inflexible at times. It is his belief that the warrior code keeps the Clans together, and since StarClan went silent Icethorn has been following it strictly and pressuring other cats to do the same.
Icethorn is stubborn to the core, and if he takes issue with another cat, he's likely to hold a grudge for moons to come. This is the reason he's become estranged from his brother, and no other cat is safe from his temperament either. At the end of the day, however, Icethorn is not afraid to die for his Clan or for his beliefs, and no cat can doubt his loyalty and dedication. His rude and tough exterior gives way to a cat who is unshakably protective of those who have proven their worth.

» background:
Nothing remarkable stands to be said about the circumstances of Icekit's birth. He was born to an average pair of ThunderClan warriors, the second and last of his litter after his older brother Swiftkit. While his father wasn't particularly involved in his or his brother's lives, his mother took proper care of the two kits, and they lived reasonably comfortable kithoods.
As soon as they were old enough to walk, Icekit and Swiftkit became the mischief makers of the Clan. They caused every sort of trouble from sneaking out of the nursery to play at night to hiding half-eaten mice in warriors' nests. Their mother had a difficult time handling their antics; she tried her best, but the two toms were completely unphased by every scolding and continued to bounce back with even more rebellious energy every time. Their disciplining was left to the warriors they often harassed, although that had little effect on them as well.
Icekit was shocked when he learned that Foxstar would be his mentor. And if he were to be honest, he was intimidated. Whether Foxstar saw some potential in him because he was slightly larger and stronger than his brother, or due to him not being quite as enthused by pranks as Swiftpaw was, Icepaw hadn't known at the time. To put a long story short, through his moons of training, Foxstar whipped Icepaw into shape. The leader's mentoring was harsh and he never hesitated to let Icepaw know when he messed up or when he wasn't trying his hardest. Icepaw learned rather quickly that the way to earn respect was to work hard, and that fooling around would at best get him a day of grooming the elders for fleas. It wasn't long before Icepaw's personality had completely changed.
Swiftpaw, on the other hand, was exactly the same. He slacked off, he didn't do his chores when told, and he still played pranks on the warriors and elders constantly. He was everything that Icepaw used to be, and everything that Icepaw now despised. The two brothers now fought regularly, Icepaw accusing Swiftpaw of being lazy and careless, and Swiftpaw accusing Icepaw of no longer being fun. For a period of time, the two didn't speak to each other. Icepaw earned his warrior name first- Icethorn, for his now prickly and serious demeanor- and Swiftpaw didn't become Swiftwing until two moons later.
Icethorn was a young tom during what Foxstar considered his "golden age", and his impression of his leader and former mentor were molded during those moons. At the time Icethorn held, and still does hold today, an immense amount of respect for Foxstar. He was the cat who taught Icethorn how to be a proper warrior, after all, and on top of that he was a phenomenal leader and warrior himself. There was a period of time when he thought that Foxstar could do no wrong, and that any cat who criticized the leader had either severely misguided judgement or a secret grudge against him. It took him some time to realize that every cat had his flaws, and the leader was no exception. It was during the fight against the dogs on ThunderClan's territory that he received the harsh reminder that disasters can happen at any time, and that there are things even a great leader cannot control. Since then his opinion of Foxstar has become more rational, and he is still steadfastly loyal to him.
A few moons later, Icethorn was given Brightpaw as an apprentice. The young Brightpaw was imaginative and enthusiastic, and he had the potential to be a well rounded warrior, if only he could tame some of his excess energy. Foxstar entrusted Icethorn to shape him up into a respectable cat, so Icethorn quickly gave Brightpaw a strict training regiment. His expectations for Brightpaw were clear: wake up at dawn every day, bring fresh-kill to the queens and the elders, keep the fresh-kill pile stocked at all times, meet Icethorn at exactly sunhigh for a lesson, then join the evening border patrol, on top of any other chores assigned for that day. Though Brightpaw enjoyed learning, it was clear he was not sufficiently serious about his other duties. Icethorn frequently found the young tom slacking off, working on some concoction or plan or otherwise wasting valuable time. Icethorn had little patience for such antics, and he berated Brightpaw on more than one occasion for his behavior. Nonetheless, it continued until the medicine cat, Mistwhisker, pleaded Foxstar to allow her to take Brightpaw as her apprentice. Although Icethorn was disappointed he would not be able to see his first apprentice reach warrior status, he was still somewhat relieved that the troublesome tom was now in someone else's paws.
As time went on Icethorn grew more estranged from his brother, and he saw the birth of his younger siblings, neither of whom he got along with particularly well, either. When StarClan went silent, Icethorn knew that the Clans were in grave danger. The Battle at Fourtrees only solidified this worry, and in recent moons he has grown increasingly short-tempered and irritable due to the worry about ThunderClan's future. Brightberry's exile was, in Icethorn's opinion, a grave mistake, because after the death of Mistwhisker, their Clan is now left without a medicine cat. With war against RiverClan an increasing possibility, not having a medicine cat could spell the death of more warriors than necessary. This is another nagging fear of his, but there is no changing what has already been done.
